At this point, it’s too early to tell how much I’m really feeling Half-A-Mil as a solo MC, but his debut single “Thug Ones” has a few things going for it. First up, recognize the talent of the Neptunes on production. These cats pretty much have the NYC thug production style mastered, as their tracks build in momentum as they progress, and that they also possess some understanding of musical arrangement, (rather than the randomness of Swizz Beatz.) Secondly, check out my man Kool G Rap over good production. If this is any indication of what we will hear on his forthcoming solo LP due out next year. While the hook on this one is pretty lame, (“A party ain’t a party less it’s thugged out, if you not a thug get the fuck out” or something), the track and an appearance by the still fresh Kool G. Rap make it work. No related posts. |
