Wondering what that hidden message was on track 8 (“Neon Gumbo”) of Janelle Monae’s Archandroid? We’ve reversed the backwards track for your listening pleasure. Mystery solved, thanks Innanet.

This is probably the most bloggy thing we’ve ever done.

This is the end of Many Moons which is on her EP Metropolis: The Chase Suite which was released in 2008. :-)

This is a beautiful piece, both backward and forward. Even in its reverse form on ArchAndroid, it’s probably my favorite stretch of music on this amazing record. Thanks for posting – I’d been wondering about Neon Gumbo’s origin. Its melody (from the original coda to Many Moons) sounds so good backward (in its ArchAndroid form) that I thought it might have first been composed, then recorded in reverse, then the tape flipped for the effect it achieves on The ArchAndroid. Turns out its just the end of Many Moons (a great song in its own right) in reverse. Wow.

Janelle Monae is so deeply talented, and it is a thrill to follow her career! I wish more artists had her talent, vision, and support. If there are any others out there, please let me know.

in the original, backward version, it sounds a little bit like in Polish language. seriously!

@Jared Widjeskog I know you made that comment like, two years ago, and I don’t know if you’ve discovered her already, but another artist I’ve thought has the quality and talent of Janelle Monae is Kimbra. She has an amazing voice and happens to be one of those rare people who has made it into the mainstream while still doing her own thing. She doesn’t, however, go quite so deeply into the realm of fantasy as Monae does.
