In a recent interview with Vibe, Raekwon spilled details on his highly anticipated follow-up to Only Built For Cuban Links 2, entitled Shaolin Vs. Wu-Tang, due this September (!).

“Right now, being that everyone respected what I did on the last album, I don’t want to have people feeling that I’m going to be away again for a long period of time,” he told VIBE. “For me, I try to stay hands-on with my hardcore base of fans and let them know, ‘Yo, I’m not going to be doing those disappearing acts like that anymore.’”

“Method Man, Ghostface, Inspectah Deck, and GZA all appear on the album,” Raekwon says of his Wu-tang brethren. “At the same time I got some other guys involved like [The Roots’] Black Thought—I love his talent. I think that when it comes to him delivering what level I wanted to go he was the perfect man. I also have Raheem DeVaughn who sounds like Curtis Mayfield over a Shaolin track.”

Strangely, RZA will not appear on the album in any capacity. “RZA doesn’t have to be on every album,” Rae says. “I wanted to give some other producers a chance. It’s not about beef.

Really? So U-God & Masta Killa won’t be featured on this gem? And no ODB lost verses? Considering RZA is the foundation of the Wu-Tang sound, can it really be labelled “Shaolin Vs Wu-Tang” with all these facts? Shoot, even Cappa should have been on this…Here’s my proposition: a parallel album to the Wu-Massacre with RZA, ODB and GZA, and another alternative with Deck, U-God and Masta Killa (I do believe they can hold weight themselves). But that’s pushing it though…Cappa can ride all albums with an appearance…Shoot, time for another throwback gem…Did someone say Shadowboxing?

  2. OHHH SHOT says:

Co-sign above. It can’t be “vs Wu-Tang” when only a third of the Wu brethren make an appearance. Having said that, I’m more geeked for the GZA/RZA Liquid Swords 2 album.

  3. Young Monk.. says:

Yeah, I’d like to see more of the Wu on there; but Rae’s supposed to unite the entire clan (30-40 something yr old dudes with separate lives) every go-round for his own album? That’s a lot to expect. Just give me more quality music and let GZA bring the rest of the crew out on the Liquid Swords 2…

Let’s hope this doesn’t turn into “Immobilarity Vol. 2″.

I don’t think all Wu-Tang members need to be on every single Wu-Tang album. That’s just not going to happen anymore, unless they do another Wu-Tang Clan album. I’m fine with that as long as he doesn’t start featuring guys like his Ice Water crew like he did on his 2nd and 3rd albums.

Kinda strange how Raekwon is now carrying the Wu on his back similar to what Ghostface was doing during the previous decade.

damn, cant wait to hear rae wit the rebel ins and gza, inkredible!!

  6. Godwellz says:

I have to agree with WUBROTHA and OHHH SHOT…RZA needs to and should touch every WU album to some degree. Last time Rae went off the side with a NON-RZA album, we got IceWater and love your work, Rae, but I hated that album. All those scarface drug beats. Hate it! I don’t know why artists must break what isn’t broken.
