I still don’t understand these complaints. HHS picks and chooses their albums to review, for whatever reason (space, time, etc). So why the hell would they waste their time reviewing crap records unless it’s meant to warn people away? And there are plenty of other sites that can do that. I read AV Club every day, and most of their reviews are B- or better. Sites like these want to steer you towards the good stuff, and good for them. Promote the positive. Let the crap stay unnoticed.

You want to find bad hip hop? Scroll through the new releases every Tuesday at eMusic, and sample all the hip hop. You’ll find the real dregs there (I actually do this faithfully, purely for the entertainment value).

This of course is assuming that it is impossible for a lot of good music to come out at once. One great release’s street date does not dictate the rating of another. July was an uncharacteristically great month for music, I think you’ll find that most of the @@@@ ratings here are equal or close to that of other publications.
