Dayz, I understand what you’re saying but at the same time ignorance has always played a large part in hip hop. Whether it was in the 90′s with artists that degraded women over and over or promoted acts of violence, and generally reveled in hedonistic and violent ways of life. This isn’t something that is just a new thing today with hip hop.

And yeah, if I was a kid today, I might not like the garbage rap on the radio, but it wasn’t like it was all classics back in the 90′s when I started listening. Kids (not all obviously..) are smart enough to look past that commercial/ignorant side and realize how beautiful and uplifting hip hop can be.

But for real, this is entertainment and if people are seriously dumb enough to look at rappers and model their life around that person or group of people, they only have themselves to blame for a negative outcome. Teenagers are impressionable, but that’s why family members and teachers and role models in the community exist.

In the end, irresponsibility is entertaining and sells, whether it’s Too Short saying motherfuck you dumb shithead bitch, or NWA sayin Fuck the Police, or Em talking about killing gay people. It’s up the individual to realize that music is just fucking music and not a model from which to set standards or live by. Slug shouldn’t expect shit from fellow artists other than for them to do their own thing. Just saying..

@k4nc3r, well stated and I totally agree with every word you wrote! Guess I just got all excited and started going off but you are totally right. I am so glad that I started listening to Hip Hop in 1983 as a little kid and grew up listening to so much great music… But yes there has always been a lot a crap rap out there…

I would also like to say that it is nice to have people to discuss Hip Hop in such an intelligent forum, I appreciate everyones opinions and thoughts here!

Like biggie said before you can choose your persona in this game… you can be the rich rapper, broke rapper, preacher or dumb ass…

…for those that don’t make the choice themselves, other people will do it for them
