?uestlove recently revealed details about The Roots next LP to Billboard, trying something they haven’t done in year’s past.
“This is going to be our first full-fledged narrative concept album,” ?uestlove told Billboard. “It’s going to be a challenge to figure out how to get from point A to B — or in this case, point B to point A, and have it seem natural.
“It’s going to be heavy on sort of orchestral chamber music with harder beats in it…,” he added. “I did this project called the Philly-Paris Lockown, which was sort of a period of French music from Debussy to Satie and Stravinsky…it was almost like the dawning of jazz in the early 1900s,” suggesting the event would influence the sound on the new record.
“In a perfect world it would come out in November, but in this world that we live in, maybe January? Maybe February? I don’t know, but hopefully it’s gonna be in a timely fashion.”
As for the album’s name? “It’s a one-word title that’s spelled incorrectly…what a way to tease you, right?”
I’m all for experimentalism… as long as its done by groups with talent… such as the roots

…and as long as the Roots learned from the mistakes they made with Common’s ELECTRIC CIRCUS.
@ Phil Watts….Electric Circus had some cuts, just need to hear outside the box…..”I Am Music” is classic!!
“Phrenology” ended me being excited for a Roots album. Not to say that they haven’t had some legit bangers for albums since, but I’m never letting myself get that disappointed again. Self-preservation, man.
@Skins I so agree… I love the Roots but they just don’t make albums like they used to. Every album has been good and I understand artists need to evolve but I just don’t get hyped for the releases anymore, music isn’t even in the same lane as their previous releases… One of my favorite acts to see live still tho!
