can’t wait for the new record! Guest list is nice. Man must have skills!

  • Model Citizen says:

Yeah, you would think that he would be nice with a guest list like that. Honestly though, dude is one of the corniest emcees I’ve heard in a while. I’m cool with positive lyrics, but his shit is generic as hell. It’s not positive in a Brother Ali, Common, kind of way, it’s more of an “I have no edge so I’m gonna talk about some it’s time for change shit.” Nothing about anything real or specific, just posititivity for the sake of having something to rhyme about. I’m a fan of JJ Brown so I checked this guys shit and I laughed out loud, not because he’s supposed to be funny, but because it’s so corny. In fact it was so bad I showed it to other people and they also laughed out loud. Check out the video for “Beautiful Day” and tell me that those lyrics have any real depth.

Model- I disagree. Beautiful Day is dope. I loved the whole Feel Good Music album. Illus is far from generic. If he was “generic” he would sound like a million other emcees. He’s pretty unique actually in that he doesn’t copy or bite any of these trendy styles or fashions- he just does him. You don’t have to like that and you can think it’s corny though, not every artist can appeal to every fan.
