Someone is getting fired. To think that Atlantic almost didn’t put Lupe’s LASERS LP out. Poetic justice has been served, as the album’s lead single, The Show Goes On, which samples Modest Mouse’s “Float On”, has sold over 2 million copies in the U.S. Congrats, Lupe.
That’s for sure… show me the money
Lasers was a calamity from start to end. If Lupe is smart at all, he’ll quit that label, jump ship and go somewhere like duckdown, def jam(they let the roots, for the most part; Nas, and anyone else make their own music), or an indie label like def jux. I don’t think one bad record should end his career, lupe has a lyrical gift, he just needs the freedom(execs staying off his nuts) to create what he wants to create. I hope he finds a new home for his art and we can get the REAL LUPE FIASCO back.
This just seems like a bad fit(Lupe&TheLabel). He is not that kind of artist. At least he got some record sales. But he should find another label that will let him do his thing. I am not DONE with him though. I know he and a lot of artists go through those creative differences with their label.
