Dope west coast representative Glasses Malone drops the video for “May 1st”. As Glasses himself describes it:

This song focuses on how we were made to feel life would change after May 1st, the day Osama Bin Laden was killed. Yet everything is exactly the same in the world, my environment, as well as my personal life! I decided to do the COLD AS ICE mixtape to show my depth and lyrical ability. Ice Cube being one of my favorite emcees of all time as well as the controversy that surrounds our supposed beef, I figure why not go in on such a classic body of work. I truly believe this might be the way to get the respect I want from him and every other OG from his generation.
I’m not some young dumb hot head, I got something to say as well!! If you heard the mixtape “2010″ which is me abusing Dr. Dre beats, then you already know what to expect.”

Is he serious… he wants to get respect with this type of weak flow over such a known and already well done track. The guy is rhyming, but I can hear cube in my head at the same time… fail

  • Dayz says:

Another emcee using a played out beat! I love the original Ice Cube song but come’on y’all leave these songs alone and pay someone or get your boy to make you a beat! This trend is outta control!

  • TomL says:

Exactly… the trend… these idiots make entire albums on known beats and expect what exactly?

  • Rizzo says:

The only beats they use are for classic songs, so remakes will inevitably be far shittier.

  • TomL says:

That’s the problem… there are plenty of dope beats that didn’t make it into classics because rhymes weren’t up to par… take those and outshine the originals
