Wow, this record is crazy. Jay and Yeezy share an Otis Redding sample…can’t see anyone really hating on this. Watch The Throne hits August 1. Ugh!

I liked the concept, but I felt the vocal sample actually became a distraction to the lyrics overhead. Ye’ should have hunted down the ’45 B-side which usually had the instrumental track.

Also, this has bugged me for a long time. Artists, especially ones that have clout, I never can understand why they just don’t go to the artist/label that holds the original sample and ask for a multitrack copy of the original 2 inch tape. I enjoy crate digging and using samples off of the original money, but when you have the cash and clout, why not go to the source and get something that you can really go off the wall crazy re-arranging a multitrack sample instead of the mixed down public release version.

I know a lot of older songs usually were takes that were only two tracks, sometime single mono tracks, but I’m pretty sure that Stax had a 4-track at the time Otis recorded this song (1966).

Like the track, but for the record, not the first time this sample has been used. See: Gravediggaz – Hidden Emotions. Obviously very different use, but same sample regardless.
