Del Dissed De La Soul On “Pissin’ On Your Steps”

New shit has come to light. While the jabs at Vanilla Ice on Del’s 1991 classic, “Pissin’ On Your Steps” from the I Wish My Brother George Was Here were obvious, he also took some shots at De La Soul, which we didn’t pick up on before. Read:

“Me & Myself and I ain’t with the Daisy’s / cuz I’m no goddamn flower / And every single dancer in circumference / Receives a golden shower.”

Del’s beef with “dance groups” was the main focus of this song, which was likely recorded in 1990, a year after De La Soul’s “Me Myself & I” single was released, a dancefloor hit that thrusted them to platinum status. De La would later define themselves as much more than a one-hit wonder with each consecutive album release, and eventually earn the respect of Del, despite this premature dis. The two acts would collaborate on Handsome Boy Modelling School’s “The Projects (The PJays)” for the So… How’s Your Girl LP. We’re sure there is more back story to this that we are unaware of.
