Pioneering video show, Yo! MTV Raps, will return for one night only, December 4th at midnight on MTV, in the form of “Yo! MTV Raps Classic Cuts”. The 30 minute episode will be hosted by the classic crew of Ed Lover, Dr. Dre, and Fab 5 Freddy, while each Ice Cube, Busta Rhymes, ?uestlove, Wiz Khalifa, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Fat Joe and DJ Premier, will remixing the show’s theme song (!).
“In this Classic Cuts special, people will go back to a seminal time in hip-hop which many have called the ‘Golden Era’ – resulting in records that are as meaningful today as they were back then,” Fab 5 Freddy said. “In order to appreciate how far hip-hop has come, you have to pay respect to the songs and artists that helped catapult the genre from a small community of fans to world domination.”
Well this is cool! Wish it was actually coming back as a daily series but one episode is better than nothing. Half hour with 15 minutes of commericals hmmm… Not much is going to actually be shown or discussed but I guess I shouldn’t complain? One of those artists mentioned above certainly doesn;t belong and we all know who! …I’m sure MTV powers that be forced the guys to add in one trendy guy to rope in the new school kids…
Time to break out the boxes of Yo! MTV Raps trading cards….but yeah, this will likely be disappointing.
