Q-Tip is the latest artist to sign with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint, in a move that seems like a perfect fit. He will release his next solo LP, The Last Zulu, in 2012 via the label. Q-Tip had this to say about the signing:

I’m excited to be a part of the great iconic Def Jam label. I’m humbled to be a part of such a storied history. To reconnect with Barry Weiss is a great thing. As far as G.O.O.D. Music, I’m excited to solidify my working relationship with Kanye, and I look forward to all the opportunities that lie ahead in our partnership. I will do my best to present the most cutting edge music I can.”

I cannot say I am for this at all… He should have done his own deal with out any other artists attached… I can see some real whack songs coming out with Q-Tip on them and I will be very disappointed when that happens. Q-Tip is one of my favorite artists ever and he doesn’t need a douche like Kanye to push his music… ATCQ will go down in history as one of the best if not the best rap groups ever and now for Tip to think he needs Kanye to stay relevant!?! SMDH…

I wish him the best of luck, but I don’t see this working out unless you can get off of Kanye’s vanity label, and just work directly with Def Jam….but I don’t see why he doesn’t go 100% independent. It seems to work well for most other artists from the 90′s who are still recording.

  • I’m in agreement with both of ya’ll I don’t know what Q-Tip was thinking. He is one of the most talented dudes ever and he damn sure doesn’t need a co-sign from anybody. Maybe he was just tired of doing the leg work. Hopefully the music doesn’t suffer, I’m hoping for the best but expecting the worst.
