Ice-T takes us on an intimate journey into the heart and soul of hip-hop with the legends of rap music. This performance documentary goes beyond the stardom and the bling, to explore what goes on inside the minds, and erupts from the lips, of the grandmasters of rap. Recognized as the godfather of Gangsta rap, Ice-T is granted unparalleled access to the personal lives of the masters of this artform that he credits for saving his life. Interspersed with the performer’s insightful, touching, and often funny revelations are classic raps, freestyle rhymes, and never before heard a cappellas straight from the mouths of the creators. What emerges is a better understanding of, and a tribute to, an original American art form that brought poetry to a new generation.

So Nas just spit rhymes from “Friends” off Distant Relatives? Ok, either way, I’m excited to see this movie.

    Eminem > Nas

Eminem makes Nas look like Puff Daddy.

The debate goes on… What is truly a “freestyle”? I consider a freestyle making up the all the words on the spot. If you rap a written that is just a performance not a freestyle. However I saw an interview with Big Daddy Kane who dosagrees and says “freestyle” to him means “free” style, i.e. not a story just a verse of random thoughts. I do not agree and will always believe a true freestyle is of the top. To me a “true” emcee must be a master of both the written word and coming off the top. If you can’t do both you are not truly a master of the art of rhyme. At least that is the standard I hold myself, my friends and follow artists up to.

I don’t think many emcees out there can truly freestyle under my definition. I have never heard most famous emcees ever truly do it other than say Supernatural and Common. I know there are afew more but those two come to mind right now. I would place money on it that off the top I could bury almost any rapper out there, and yes if any want to try me lets go! The only cat that held up so far was KRS-One, we went back and forth at a show in Baltimore and he could spit off the top.
