In the wake of the Aurora, CO shooting at the premiere of The Dark Knight Rises this past weekend, the most hot-button political topic of the moment is gun control. Ice-T sat in at London’s channel 4 to speak on his new film, The Art Of Rap.

While in house, he spoke on gun laws in the U.S.

“It’s legal in the United States,” Ice-T said. “The right to bear arms is because that’s the last form of defense against tyranny. Not to hunt. It’s to protect yourself from the police.”

“And do you see any link between that and this sort of instance?” Guru-Murthy challenged.

“No. Not really,” Ice-T responded. “If somebody wants to kill people, they don’t need a gun to do it.”

“Makes it easier though, doesn’t it?” the host pushed back.

“Not really. You can strap explosives on your body. They do that all the time.”

    People who want to take away guns in this country are fools. Most criminals get their guns in the street anyway, tightening gun laws will just make it harder for normal people to arm themselves, aint gonna effect the criminal population in the slightest. Dont let this psychopathic idiot leave the working man defenseless against every burglar, armed robber or trigger happy gang banger who bought his gun with no serial number out the trunk of a car. I got a license, they take it away I’m just gonna carry mine illegally, straight up.

    Please don’t take this as an argument but I always questioned the type of guns citizens are able to purchase. I am for the right to bear arms but is it really necessary to have Modern Warfare type equipment? Like I said not trying to argue but I don’t know anybody who laid out a buck with an M14 with 3.4 scope and laser sight. Just seen a median in which I could ask in hope someone can give me a legit answer.

    @Mitch

    The problem with that line of thinking is that self-defense with a weapon pretty much never happens.

    Where was the person in the theater carrying a weapon to stop the shooter?
    Where was the person carrying a handgun (in gun-friendly Arizona) to stop the Gabrielle Giffords shooting?
    Where was the person carrying a handgun to stop the VA Tech shooter?
    Where was the person carrying a handgun to stop the guy who started shooting in the Texas Capital building?

    The truth of the matter is that the instigator is always ahead of the defender (the instigator planned it, the defender didn’t). The shooter in CO came in with teargas and already had lit the place up before anybody could react. Had somebody tried to shoot back, the visibility in the theater was so poor that a potential hero could have easily shot an innocent person. The main idea here is that you’re probably going to be dead before you even think about pulling your gun.

    So the CO nutjub should ALSO be able to walk into a legit gun store and cop?!?!? GTFOH. In my estimation this is what gun control is/should be about.

    Good ish itlnstln

    Are you fucking serious?! Look at every other western nation that doesn’t have this out-dated ‘right to bear arms’ law. There gun related crime is so fucking low (think Crooked I’s fitted) when compared to the US.
    Like it or not, there’s a direct correlation between the ridiculously high levels of gun related crimes in the US and the right to bear arms. Simple. As. That.
