In the above clip, the artist formerly known as Mos Def freestyles for GQ. While at the shoot, Bey explained his name-change from to Yasiin Bey from Mos Def, fearing that he was becoming too much of a “product”.
“I began to fear that Mos Def was being treated as a product, not a person, so I’ve been going by Yasiin since ’99. At first it was just for friends and family, but now I’m declaring it openly,” Bey told GQ.

Sorry but he will forever be called Mos Def when I refer to him. Plus having your name = a brand is not a bad thing, it’s how you market yourself and sell your product. Just like Puff Daddy will always be Puff Daddy to me.
