BET has partnered with the Brick City TV producers Marc Levin and Mark Benjamin, (producers of the Peabody Award-winning and twice Emmy nominated series “Brick City”) and Emmy Award-winning and Academy Award nominated filmmaker Sam Pollard (“Slavery By Another Name” and “Four Little Girls”) to produce a two-part news documentary, “SECOND COMING?: WILL BLACK AMERICA DECIDE THE 2012.” The documentary follows a diverse constellation of agents of political change and activism through the 2012 election cycle. Obama surrogate Kerry Washington, Usher, Samuel L. Jackson, Reverend Al Sharpton, Reverend Jesse Jackson, Eve, Ice Cube, Yolanda Adams, pollster Cornell Belcher, Common, Snoop Dogg, 2 Chainz, A$AP Rocky, The RZA, Salt N Pepa, DMX, Redman, Cam’ron, Bun B, Joyful Drake, Warren G and Brandon & Lorielle Broussard, the young activists behind “Barack The Vote”, Narrated by S. Epatha Merkerson the series will also focus on grassroots activists in battleground states Tarsha Williams, Charles Perry, Pastor Jamal Bryant and others who will take viewers behind the scenes of their effort to mobilize the black community to vote in another historic Presidential election. The first half of the docu-series captured the behind the scenes grassroots efforts in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Charlotte, over a span of several months leading up to the 2012 election. The second hour focuses on the “Game Change” – the changing demographics which will result in minorities soon becoming the majority, and the voter suppression attempts to keep minorities from the polls. Hip Hop personalities, not usually publicly connected to the political arena, will tell their personal stories of how legislation affects their lives and the importance of getting involved.

“This election could determine the direction of our country for years to come. The stakes are high and too much of the media repeats the same old tired horse race punditry,” says executive producer Marc Levin. “We wanted to create something original that connects people and politics and engages and excites the BET audience. These two hours are going to kick apathy in the ass!”

“Everyone has to come to terms about what kind of country they want for the next four years,” remarks Alice A. Huffman, President of the NAACP California/Hawaii State Conference. “I think the film gives people the opportunity to arrive at that decision. It is quite well done and it is balanced. I believe it is going to be very, very helpful at this time for people who are really wondering what to really believe about President Obama’s administration.”

“I commend and take my hat off to BET Networks for exploring & documenting the 2012 Presidential Election Campaign from a grassroots point of view. These stories of everyday middle class people who got up and said, ‘Today, I’m going to do something about it!’ are proof that your voice counts and that your vote counts,” says producer Mike Marangu.

The special airs on BET Oct. 19th and 26th at 9PM.
