Kendrick Lamar’s long-awaited Aftermath debut, Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City, is in stores today, and word is that XXL Magazine has given it the coveted “XXL” perfect rating. In other news, the album is expected to sell over 200k in it’s first week, but won’t score the #1 spot, as Taylor Swift’s Red will enter with over 1 million copies sold. Must be nice.
So how did Kendrick fare on the HipHopSite.Com rating scale? We’ll be revealing that by the end of the week….
7 out of 10 is not really a lukewarm review of the album. I thought it was pretty good but by no means is this a “classic”. The production on half of the joints is just boring. I have listened to this album 3 times already, and the dope songs are really dope, but there is a ton of skippable material. I actually have liked it less, the more I have listened to it. Out of the last two weeks, I am feeling Iron Fists, Sean Price, and Cold 187um’s album more than this.
Cold 187um has a new album? Black Mafia Life is one of the most under rated LPs. Pure dope.
Yeah, Cold 187um has an new album called The Only Solution. The crazy thing is, he is signed to Psychopathic records and is down with the ICP dudes. Normally, I would dismiss this as I think the ICP posse are wack to the extreme, but this sh*t is really dope. The concept of the album is that he is a hitman, and each track is like a chapter in the hitman’s life. I was surprised that this was as dope as it is, but it is pure 90′s style gangsta sh*t.
And yeah Green Django, the first 6 albums for Above the Law are criminally slept on. Livin Like Hustlers, Vocally Pimpin, Black Mafia Life, Uncle Sam’s Curse, Time will Reveal and Legends are all heat.
Right on! sounds like a great concept. Think it time to dust off all my old ATL wax. Kokane don’t bite the funk is another one that’s totally overlooked. Love that gangsta sound by cold187um.
