In an extensive interview with Newsweek’s Daily Beast, Rick Rubin talked about his career thus far, and gave some insight into the Yeezus recording sessions.

He revealed that there was enough material recorded for two volumes of Yeezus, and there is a possibility that a sequel could happen.

When he came to you with the record, did you have a sense of what needed to be done?

Initially, he thought there were going to be 16 songs on the album. But that first day, before he even asked me to work on it, I said, “Maybe you should make it more concise. Maybe this is two albums. Maybe this is just the first half.” That was one of the first breakthroughs. Kanye was like, “That’s what I came here today to hear! It could be 10 songs!”

So there might be another Yeezus in the pipeline?

Might be.

That said, Yeezus 2: Cruel Winter is likely to drop Neveruary 31st.

    Who cares

According to the article, Kanye approached Rubin about doing the album just weeks before it was due and when it was nowhere near done (there weren’t even words for some songs). Not surprisingly the result was Kanye’s most lyrically lazy album ever (mi casa su casa, that’s our cosa nostra? Really?). Coupled with Kanye’s inability to protest racism save by playing into awful stereotypes of oversexed black males, this album by far represents his worst, and most (inadvertently?) self-demeaning effort to date.

@R we have DT swinga as our album reviewer. Either big up Run the Jewelz or bitch about Drake!

Why is Rick Rubin trolling around all of the sudden? He hasn’t had ish to do with hip-hop for a long time (I am aware of his entire history, Def Jam-which he left to die, etc…HOWEVER) and now he resurfaces to hang around with douchebags instead of real hip-hop artists…We could use some real music, Rick, how about focusing on viable artists instead of the most popular??

Did anybody notice an obvious contradiction in the interview ? Rick talks about the two years it took to make License To Ill and other albums and goes out of his way to make the point that great art takes time and artists who deliver rushed work due to touring schedules turn out crap albums. If that is true, how does he explain the sh** sandwich that Kanye threw together days before the due date ? Kanye seems to be so loved by the hiphop press that it seems he can turn in anything and get a great review.
