R.A. The Rugged Man’s wild past has become a part of hip-hop lore, with countless rumors circulating about just how outrageous R.A.’s behavior was back in the 90s. In a new interview, the Rugged Man sheds some light these wild times. It all began with a nine-label bidding war for R.A.’s services back in the early 90s, involving the likes of Russell Simmons and Irving Azoff. “They’re all calling my house, picking me up in limos. I’m a teenager, and they’ve got prostitutes for me. I’m a kid, man! I’m allowed to have sex with these prostitutes? I wish they never did that to me. Then I make crazy rhymes about girls, and they go ‘R.A.’s bad.’”

As R.A.’s wild behavior escalated, he eventually got banned from performing live in the U.S. “I started a riot at a show,” he explains. “Funkmaster Flex was DJing, A Tribe Called Quest was hosting it…I saw hookers on the street, and I said ‘Come on my show.’ I duct-taped hookers from the street. I brought them out, and everything went crazy. 700 people, everyone’s fighting, hitting each other, big riots. All of a sudden I’m banned from doing shows in America for like three, four years.” Check out the rest of the interview at the link above, where R.A. also speaks on watching his 90s peers become stars, including Wu-Tang, Mobb Deep, Foxy Brown, and more.

I don’t know if I buy his whole story. GG Allin did WAY MORE EXTREME stuff performing, and he wasn’t banned from performing
