Universal has released the first photo of the cast of F. Gary Gray’s Straight Outta Compton, featuring the film’s Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, and Ice Cube. It was news broke earlier in the week that Dr. Dre would be played by Marcus Callender, however this has turned out to be incorrect, as the role will go to Corey Hawkins (Iron Man 3, Non Stop). Ice Cube’s son, OMG, will still portray him, and Eazy-E will be played by Jason Mitchell, as reported earlier. The film is set for an 8/14/15 release date. Check out the photo of the core cast below.

I guess we will see how Hollywood (and Dre and Ice Cube) will pick and choose what to keep in and what to leave out. I wonder if they will talk about how Cube, DOC, and others wrote the lyrics for people like Dre and Eazy, or Ice Cube’s constant racist remarks, or how many of them weren’t even gangsters at all. With, Dre an Cube being involved, you can expect them to do their best to make themselves go down as legends, and discard some of the facts along the way.

I’m trying to figure out how/why Dre & Cube need to “make themselves go down as legends” Who in recent music history presents as more legendary? lol This movie is shaping up to be some bullish.

I dont have the exact quote but muhammed ali said somethin to the effect , the man who sees the world @ 40 the same we he did @ 20 has wasted 20 years of his life, cube aint contradict, he grew.

  • The Man the Myth says:

Be true to the game was one of my favorite cube songs, unfortunately he became everything he hated. Muhammed ali may have said that, but the man the myth says that a man who sells out his beliefs for wealth and fame has wasted his life. Sure, Cube is wealthy, and he is a big movie star, but has he grown? If you ask me, he has regressed. His music is total crap now and his movies are really shitty. At least he stood for something back then. Can’t really say that he stands for anything but the dollar now.

When people are hypocrites, sell out, or end up doing fucked up shit, too many people use the excuse of “i just grew up”. That is the biggest cop out. Man Myth is right, he doesn’t stand for shit now, except being a prostitute for money. Imagine if people like Cube would have never made it. He’d most likely be preaching some shit against people just like himself. There is no Ice Cube, society determines what Ice Cube is. Ice Cube made some classic albums, but he is a major bitch. That is why he had beef with so many people like Cypress Hill, Common, Kam, King Sun, etc etc.

Also, Ali was a hypocrite too. Dude bitched about racism, but believed in segregation of the races and felt black people and white people shouldn’t blend together. There are videos on youtube of him talking about it. That’s the same mindset of a white supremacist or KKK member, but we see those people as evil, yet Ali is a hero? Guess he and Cube get a pass on being racists though. If any white dude would have said half the shit Ice Cube has said in his past about numerous races, Hollywood would have blacklisted him. Yet, he can be the star or children’s movies. Quite an odd place we live in.
