Former Aftermath producer Dawaun Parker hits the Cosmic Zoo and discusses Dre’s much romanticized forthcoming album, Detox. Speaking on the archives of songs and beats waiting to be unearthed, he also goes into the actual title of the album, which may or may not be what you’re thinking.

At this point I think the only way we are going to hear any of those sealed in a vault choice songs is were going to have to wait until Dre passes away and then his Estate will then start dropping Detox Vols. 1-50 over another 20+ years to keep the money flowing in for generations to come. Other than that I don’t believe any of this nonsense about a new LP title, new music, blah blah blah…

  • The Man the Myth says:

Who really cares anyway, Dre has always lived on the backs of more talented musicians and producers his whole career. His early NWA stuff is about the only thing I equate Dre with. He jumped on Cold 187um’s G-Funk idea and basically ripped off Black Mafia Life for his Chronic album, Daz and Warren G’s sound was the primary engine behind Doggystyle. Chronic 2001 bored me to tears, and everything he has done in the last 10 years has done little to make me believe that he has it in him to make a classic. So at the end of the day, the only reason the vaults aren’t being opened, is because what’s in the vault more than likely is dried up dog doodoo.

But the hype is still there, we are commenting on it, give other projects this detox shit is old and boring

Yep, Dre’s legacy is solidified & the yammering of a million haterz with a genie lamp couldn’t erase it. At this point duke might as well have the best talent around cont to grow what may be the greatest overall vault/catalog in the history of modern music. The Beats/Apple platform is poised to tighten his yolk hold on the game.

  • The Man the Myth says:

Just for Dre’s work in NWA, he solidified himself as one of the greats, but lets not think for a second that he hasn’t ridden on the backs of all of those mentioned in my earlier points. Regardless, I haven’t heard anything, not one thing from the man in the last 10 years that is even remotely “classic”. I am a huge Michigan Football fan, but Dre now is like Michigan football now, A JOKE.
