Brooklyn “joke-rap” trio Das Racist have parted ways, revealed this weekend, after Heems held down a Das Racist performance in Germany by himself, telling the crowd, “I’m going to do some Das Racist songs, but Das Racist is breaking up and we’re not a band anymore.”

Kool A.D. followed up with his own statement, confirming the break-up on Twitter, “For the record i quit das racist 2 months ago and was asked by our manager not to announce it yet. apparently @HIMANSHU wanted to do it tho.”

No reason has been revealed for the split.

Heems (aka Himanshu Suri of Das Racist) released a free album today – Nehru Jackets features Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, Action Bronson, Childish Gambino and more.

The album also features youth members of Queens, NY community organization SEVA, with whom the tape was released to raise awareness about redistricting in the borough. More about SEVA here.
