Mello Music Group producers Apollo Brown and Gensu Dean have traded places. Apollo has recreated half of Abrasions w/ Planet Asia; meanwhile Gensu has re-envisioned half of Dice Game w/ Guilty Simpson. The result is a new project with two sides. Listen as Gensu Dean smashes heavy production out on the legendary SP1200, highlighting Guilty Simpson’s vocal reflections. In addition, Apollo Brown ushers in soulful head nodding renditions of Planet Asia’s battlefield stories. Both new renditions are available today and you can stream them in full below.

About a year back Gensu Dean began working on a project with Planet Asia. At the same time label-mate Apollo Brown began working with Guilty Simpson on a record. The two producers lamented the other working with Guilty and Asia prior to them getting a chance to. So an idea hatched: Apollo would take half of Gensu’s album vocals with Planet Asia and rework them into the vision he had, while Dean would do the same to Guilty Simpson’s verses. The result is one project with two sides: “Abrasions: Stitched Up” and “Dice Game “Shaken” coming out January 14, 2014.

The grand imperial Gensu Dean & Planet Asia recently went to Chicago to promote music education to the young alongside A Tribe Called Quests’s Ali Shaheed Muhammad (among others), and performed some cuts from their current collaborative album “Abrasions.” At the same time the deluxe edition of their vinyl came out and on it was a limited edition flexi-disc record with a special edition remix of “Reflections” that Gensu cooked up. Today we have that remix (The Translucent Mix of Reflections) for everyone to hear.

It was about time to put some visuals behind Gensu Dean & Planet Asia’s collborative album ABRASIONS, so they road tripped to Fresno to shoot “Faces On The Dollar’. Cash out with Planet Asia as he walks us through his Central Valley stomping grounds. Ride by the Fink-White Center, The Brownies, the corner store, and even Planet Asia’s childhood home. Gensu Dean lays the perfect sonic backdrop for Asia’s lyrical reflection and dollar dreaming.

Gensu Dean & Planet Asia released their collaborative album, “Abrasions,” today via Mello Music Group. With Gensu Dean handling production on his trusty SP-1200, the two created a front to back album some could note is Planet Asia’s best album in years. The album features guest appearances from David Banner, Shawn Pen, Tragedy Khadafi, Gold Chain Military and others.

This morning MTV Hive debuted the new single from Dallas based producer Gensu Dean & Fresno’s finest Planet Asia. The track “Chuck Berry” features Shawn Pen and revolves around an agressive rock riff that Dean created on his trusty SP1200. The song appears on the forthcoming album “Abrasions” to be released on Mello Music Group February 26th.

The Grand Imperial Gensu Dean caused waves with his Mello Music Group debut LP Lo-Fi Fingahz. Never one to rest on his laurels, the southern beat maestro is ready to announce his sophomore project with the legendary Planet Asia titled “Abrasions” that will be out this winter on MMG. But to hold fans over in the meantime, Dean is drops some new visuals for his collaboration off of Lo-Fi Fingahz with David Banner, “Alice In Wonderland”.

Conceived and directed by Calvan Fowler of Daydream Filmworks, the same mind and lens that directed Dean’s previous video “Forever” (feat. Large Professor), this clip is a trip down the rabbit hole complete with mad hatters, giant rabbits and sadistic doctors. David Banner sounds energized as he plays off Deans’ smooth guitar sample in a two-verse tale about a woman done wrong. The two Mississippi natives show great chemistry in the clip, no surprise since the two go back years—their first work together was more than 10 years ago when Banner was in the heralded group, Crooked Lettaz.

Fresh off appearances at SXSW with label mates Apollo Brown & Oddisee, Gensu Dean has unleashed his first video to support his debut album “Lo-Fi Fingahz”. To bring this one to life, Dean brought in director Calvan Fowler of DayDream FilmWorks whom you may recognize from his work with Pete Rock/Smif n Wessun on Roses feat. Freeway. The video was shot in Brooklyn & Manhattan this past month and takes listeners back to when storytelling and direction went hand in hand.

It’s SXSW season and Mello Music Group’s Oddisee, Apollo Brown, Gensu Dean, and yU have teamed up with Muve Music, CricketNation and 2DB to launch their latest exclusive compilation. The new Mello Muve Compilation features exclusive new songs, commentary and classic tracks.
