After releasing its lead single “Moonlight” and its accompanying video, Hanni El Khatib is back today to share GZA’s remix of his forthcoming LP’s title track for free download. The remix finds GZA honing in on the song’s theme of moonlight before taking his verse even further out into the cosmos. It’s a great demonstration of just how easily Hanni’s breakbeat drumming could just as easily be co-opted for hip hop. Stay tuned for more Hanni El Khatib and Moonlight news soon.

For a limited time Get On Down is offering the limited edition GZA/Genius Liquid Swords “Battle Scene” Wood Block prints. This 18″ x 18″ wood block is based on the album’s “Battle Scene” visuals which were included in Liquid Swords’ original album packaging. These wood blocks are screen printed by AntiDesigns, with a deluxe resin finish by Josh Falk. This resin finish adds a nice texture to the wood block, giving it a glass-like look. As shown in the video, the process to make these is quite involved. First, with Jay (AntiDesigns) making the screen and hand printing each block while Josh pours the clear, colorless liquid resin over the wood, adding flame to cast it permanently. These are hand-numbered and limited to 100 and are available at GetOnDown.Com.

GZA is a founding member of the seminal hip hop group, the Wu-Tang Clan, and co-founder of SCIENCE GENIUS with Christopher Emdin of Teachers College. The program seeks to engage high school students in science using hip hop. The pilot program met with great success in terms of recognition and results: participating schools saw an increase in regents exams scores and 15-25% in attendance. When asked who was his favorite Wu Tang member, Mayor Elect of New York City, Bill DiBlasio, said “GZA. Not only is he a great lyricist, but I also admire his work to engage African American and Latino students in the sciences.”

GZA appeared alongside RZA in Jim Jarmusch’s film Coffee & Cigarettes, opposite Bill Murray. The two also appeared on the Chappelle Show’s in the now legendary skits “Wu Tang Financial” and “Racial Draft.”

GZA has lectured at Harvard, Oxford, USC, MIT, NYU, Cornell, and JPL/NASA. In his travels, he has met with a myriad scientists to seek inspiration for his forthcoming album entitled DARK MATTER, which will be released Spring 2014. The project is a natural extension of his longtime fascination with the cosmos. “I will take a quantum leap and discuss the universe while taking us on a journey through deep space. Traveling at lightspeed from the galactic center of one galaxy to the farthest corners of another. I hope my listeners will enjoy this cosmic adventure within a world of colossal planets, gas giants, meteorites, comets, and asteroids in the most extreme conditions.”

Rap legend GZA gives us a sneak peak of one of the songs from his new album, Dark Matter. The rapper has encouraged New York City public schools use hip hop as a tool to teach science. GZA/Genius, take us the fuck outta here…

GZA says he’s about to go into the studio to record his new album, but it is “Not Liquid Swords 2, not yet,” he tweeted late last week. “This project will have a visual and audio element. In a league of it’s own. Taking it up a notch before we get Liquid Swords 2 in motion.”…..G.O.O.D. Music recording artist and 1/2 of The Clipse, Pusha T, has finished his Fear of God mixtape, which is 13 tracks deep. Look for it soon…. Apathy tweeted today that he received his DJ Premier beat for his upcoming Honkey Kong LP and that the track “is fuckin AMAZING!!! This is a CERTIFIED classic. Woooooooooo…” We can’t wait to hear him on it…..

Freddie Foxxx aka Bumpy Knuckles announced that in addition to his Kollexion LP with DJ Premier, due this year, he will also release a joint LP with KRS-One called Royalty Check…..Aesop Rock is back in the studio working on a new solo rap album, along with some other projects…. David Banner tweets that he just left the studio with Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes, and that The Carter IV is going to be a problem……In a recent interview with Conspiracy Radio, Wu-affiliate Cilvaringz spoke on forthcoming Wu-Tang projects, which include Method Man’s new Def Jam LP, GZA’s Liquid Swords 2, Killah Priest Heavy Mental 2, and Ghostface’s Supreme Clientele 2. He also mentions an unreleased GZA/Nas collabo that was left off of the original Liquid Swords. Surely someone out there has this….?

GZA’s been working on and compiling footage for Wu-Tang Revealed for ten years now, which will give a very in-depth look at the Clan behind the scenes. Lots of arguing included.
