Hot 97 NYC’s Summer Jam had it’s twentieth anniversary show last night at Metlife Stadium, which unfortunately was cut short by New Jersey State Police, during French Montana’s set, due to threats of lightning. Still the rest of the show went off with out a hitch, featuring performances from Kendrick Lamar, The Wu-Tang Clan, 2 Chainz, and… Papoose? Highlights below….

Papoose, unannounced, coaxes Kendrick Lamar’s DJ to let him perform “Get At Me” after Kendrick’s set. This, instead of a surprise appearance from Jay-Z or Dr. Dre, which left the Hot 97 team scratching their head:

This morning, Hot 97 revealed the line-up for Summer Jam XX’s Festival Village stage, which is the smaller stage for a lot of the underground acts. This is the infamous stage where Peter Rosenberg dissed “Starships” last year during Kendrick Lamar’s performance, resulting in Nicki Minaj’s boycott of the show. While we expect Kendrick to hit the mainstage this year, rounding out the Festival Village stage are each Action Bronson, A$AP Ferg, Troy Ave, Smoke DZA, Joey Bada$$, Bodega Bamz, Vinny Cha$e and Kid Ink.

So, this year’s Hot 97 Summer Jam was not without controversy, as usual. When jock Peter Rosenberg introduced Kendrick Lamar, he said “We’re about real hip-hop here, not ‘Starships’,” referring to Nicki Minaj’s crossover single. Lil Wayne that preceded to Tweet “Young Money ain’t doing summer jam,” and pulled all of his labelmates from the show.

So, planned for Nicki’s performance were guest appearances from Nas, Lauryn Hill, Cam’Ron, and 2 Chainz. Since Nicki didn’t perform, Hot 97 retorted by allowing all of her special guests to perform in place of her. Funk Master Flex fired plenty of shots during his set, suggesting that he is going to destroy Nicki’s career. He fired plenty of indirect shots, suggesting “Rappers afraid to step on this stage tonight. If you’re commercial and pop and afraid to touch down in Jersey.” He continued “You better turn me on tomorrow at 7. We ain’t fuckin’ with commercial rappers no more. You don’t go gold. It’s all your fault. I’m dedicated to tearing you down. I’m gonna show you mama. You think you didn’t sell any records this time? Tune into me tomorrow at 7 O’clock. I got to ruin a career.”
