Rappcats: “The Figure was conceived and rendered by Detroit artist Sintex, designed and sculpted by Seoul-based toy artist P2PL. It was manufactured by Blitzway on behalf of Pay Jay. It is a collaborative release with Stussy, whose logo is officially licensed.

The Figure is 7.5″ tall. The Figure’s hat, sampler and chain are removable and the Figure’s arms articulate. The Figure comes in a custom designed box, wrapped in paper to best attempt to protect the box from rubbing in shipping. The Figure comes in a clamshell case inside the box. Please note that the box is for the protection of the Figure during transportation and is not replaceable if damaged.

Pay Jay Productions was founded by J Dilla (James Yancey). The Estate of James Yancey is administered by attorney Alex Borden and overseen by the Probate Court of the State of California on behalf of Yancey’s four heirs – his mother, Maureen “Madukes” Yancey, his brother John “Illa J” Yancey and his two daughters, Ja’Mya Yancey and Ty-monae Whitlow.

Note: Photos of an early prototype of this figure were leaked online last year. This is the first and only time the figure has been produced.

Limited edition of 2000. There will be no further production of this limited edition version of the figure.
Jay Dee a.k.a. J Dilla is widely regarded as one of the greatest producers in hip hop history. The King of Beats Ma Dukes Yancey Collector’s Edition is manufactured in the image and likeness of the exact SP-1200 which produced Jay Dee’s signature sound. The box casing is hand crafted from custom wood with chrome hinges. (Dimensions: 46 cm. x 38.5 cm. x 20 cm. (Approx. 7 7/8 in. x 18 7/64 in. x 15 5/32 in.) Weight: 4 kg. (Approx. 10lbs.)) Available for the first time, The King of Beats Box Set feature’s (40) tracks from Jay Dee’s groundbreaking ‘Batches’ on vinyl. The E-Mu Systems SP-1200 drum machine and sampler was the first electronic instrument Jay Dee worked with while crafting the incomparable styles and sounds which defined the early stages of his legendary production. The SP-1200 was his primary tool of choice at the inception of his career. During this period, he created classics for early Slum Village, The Pharcyde, A Tribe Called Quest, Busta Rhymes, among many others. After careful study and curation this one of a kind collection compiles the well-deserved documentation of Jay Dee’s early musical masterpieces.

De La Soul has released a statement regarding the release of limited edition Smell The Da.I.S.Y. instrumental vinyl, which will accompany their recent collaborative mixtape with J Dilla of the same name.

“We are happy to announce the release of the limited edition vinyl of “Smell The Da.I.S.Y.” in-stores 4/18. The vinyl will be a all instrumental version of the “Smell The Da.I.S.Y.” project. It contains 12 tracks that include all 11 of the “Smell The Da.I.S.Y.” instrumentals plus one exclusive never heard before J Dilla beat.

We decided to release a all instrumental version of “Smell The Da.I.S.Y.” to give people the experience of a J Dilla beat tape that we were so lucky to receive. These beat tapes were the springboard that generated creation and generated inspiration for us.

The vinyl release is very, very limited, only 100 copies will be released to stores, to resemble the limited amount of beat tapes that Dilla would send out to artists like Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Talib Kweli, Common, Mos Def, Busta, and De La.

Dilla was a heavy crate digger that scoured the earth digging for exclusive vinyl to sample, and if you want this vinyl project you’ll have to dig the same. We are not releasing the record store information so if you would like to find a copy go to http://www.wearedelasoul.comc for clues and also our Twitter, Instagram and Facebook pages for the vinyl whereabouts. Happy digging!”
