The NC by way of Cincinnati emcee Fluent drops “Wild & Free,” the first leak off his forthcoming lp, Retro Future. This Khrysis produced single features verses from the Justus League affiliate Median & KAZE a/k/a 4 Letters. Light on features, the album includes a guest feature from El da Sensei and boasts production from both Khrysis and The Returners. Retro Future is just one of two projects that Fluent will drop this year, the follow-up being a full length produced entirely by heavyweight beatsmith J. Cardim (Lil Wayne, Akon, Wale, Talib Kweli).

Truck tells us:

“Bringing Me Back” was a song that Khrysis and I did after first meeting through management a couple of years ago. After a long night and a 24 pack of Natty Lights we came up with this one at around 2am. Note; this was one of several joints we did over the course of a few days in North Carolina, what ended up being the Little Brother song “Revenge” was another. Naturally what we created led to the idea of doing a project together. Im glad to say that the idea may finally now be coming to fruition….so look for the Khrysis x Truck North project sooner then you think.

Away Team Set to Release 'Scars & Stripes' Album on Oct. 11th

The Away Team, a hip-hop duo consisting of emcee Sean Boog and producer Khrysis, is set to release their fourth studio LP ‘Scars & Stripes’ on October 11th through Jamla/It’s A Wonderful World Music Group/ Duck Down Music.

The 15-track album, entirely produced by Khrysis, features appearances from Talib Kweli, Phonte, Evidence, and Rapsody amongst others.

When Khrysis set out to create the beats for the album he “wanted to go back to the basics with the production, yet maintain a more mature sound to display the growth of The Away Team.”

Sean Boog further laments this point by adding “we aren’t the same young kids who came into this game not knowing anything. Not only the rap game but the transition into adulthood. The meaning behind ‘Scars & Stripes’ is going through hard times, ups and downs throughout life and coming out on top. I’ve gotten a lot more introspective on this album lyrically, especially on songs such as “Road to Redemption,” “What Is This” and “Bad News”. People will be able to relate to what we are saying…life isn’t easy for any of us.”
