“Legends Never Die” in stores now. Order the album now at http://ratheruggedman.net/shop/. Also available on iTunes: http://bit.ly/1BzmBbf.

More than two decades after their classic collaboration “Every Record Label Sucks Dick,” legendary emcee R.A. The Rugged Man and iconic producer Buckwild are back with another powerful statement, in the form of R.A.’s new music video “Media Midgets”. This time around, the target is broader: from TV producers to radio stations to government propaganda. “Society continues to be brainwashed and programmed,” explains the Rugged Man. “They are told what to watch, what to wear, how to think, how to vote, who’s lives are important and unimportant, what music and entertainment is relevant. The youth especially need to know that they are being programmed, and spoon fed another man’s agenda. They have to think for themselves.”

For the video, director Douglas Quill envisioned a dystopian, post-apocalyptic future where free thought and expression are dead. “It’s basically society being programmed and turned into mass marketed puppets, until the truth teller shows up and flips the switch,” says R.A. “That’s when society revolts against the oppressive brain washing machine. I think it’s deep but fun and super visual at the same time. This is my most ambitious, biggest, most cinematic video so far.”

Music Produced by: Buckwild.
Legendary rapper R.A. The Rugged Man is back in the director’s chair for the rambunctious and hysterical new video “Definition Of A Rap Flow”, off his latest album Legends Never Die. Among the Rugged Man’s most infectious videos to date, “Definition Of A Rap Flow” features cameos from a host of hip-hop luminaries, from legends like Grandmaster Caz, Sadat X, Chill Rob G, Dinco D, and the Beatnuts to new-school talent like Chris Webby. Combining the style and essence of hip-hop’s Golden Era with technically flawless new-school lyricism, “Definition Of A Rap Flow” is yet another reminder of the Rugged Man’s undeniable place in the pantheon of all-time great emcees. While on a recent tour stop in Atlanta, R.A. The Rugged Man caught up with Dead End Hip Hop for an in-depth interview. After discussing the origins of the his recent collaboration “The Dangerous Three” with Brother Ali and Masta Ace (13:22) and detailing his upcoming work with Rakim (21:17), R.A. gives a candid assessment of the current state of lyricism.

The Rugged Man laments that Yeezus is the “worst rap album in five years” (26:10), explaining that Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse got so much attention because Kendrick is actually a “good rapper, he can rhyme” (26:30). He then explains that with “lazy” Jay-Z and “mediocre” Kanye West setting the bar for lyricism so low, Kendrick looks untouchable by comparison (26:50). R.A. concludes the discussion by praising less-publicized emcees like Reks and Elzhi (27:30), and claiming that while Jay-Z used to be “a ferocious lyricist,” he’s been coasting off his reputation for years (27:55).

R.A. The Rugged Man’s critically-acclaimed new album Legends Never Die has been hailed as one of the best hip hop albums of 2013. Featuring appearances from Tech N9ne, Talib Kweli, Brother Ali, Hopsin, Vinnie Paz, Krizz Kaliko, Masta Ace, Eamon, and more, the album is now in stores everywhere. R.A. is currently on a nationwide tour alongside Potluck.
