Showbiz & AG present their official album Mug Shot Music which is Out Now!

The album pairs the legendary DITC duo together with Showbiz on production and AG on vocal duties. DJ Premier is the executive producer on the project and the album features OC, Frank V, Party Arty and Jeffery Nortey.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been sharing various songs from the album. Today, enjoy the final leak for the song “The Soul” ft. Frank V on the hook.

As promised, Showbiz & AG’s upcoming album Mugshot Music will be released soon. To start things off, check the first leak from the upcoming album for the track “Everytime I Touch The Mic” featuring DITC affiliate OC and Frank V on the hook.

Showbiz & AG continue their onslaught of new music for their fans worldwide. Recently the duo released their free album “Preloaded” which is a pre-cursor to their upcoming retail album “Mug Shot Music.”

On July 17th, DITC Records will be releasing the “Preloaded Remixes” album which features 7 brand new tracks and remixes from the “Preloaded” album. All the remixes are produced by Showbiz, but he breathes new life to each song.

Today, enjoy a brand new track “Do It 4″ which will be included on the upcoming “Preloaded Remixes” album dropping on July 17th.

Showbiz & AG of the legendary DITC crew recently released their free album “Pre-Loaded,” which serves as a precursor to their upcoming album “MugShot Music.” The response to “Pre-Loaded” was great and as another thank you to loyal DITC fans, Showbiz remixed a track from “Pre-Loaded” for the joint “That Nigga Crazy.”

Boasting a career that spans over two decades, Showbiz and A.G. are the post-Guru answer to Gang Starr – a seminal New York duo that has never lost it’s vision. As DJ Premier re-introduces them on this “free-album-before-the-album”, the two have settled in a natural vibe. From the sound of Mugshot Music: Pre-Loaded – a mellowed-out, almost hypnotic combination of A.G.’s observational rhyme style and Show’s crate-dug beats – it’s hard to believe this is the same crew that delivered us party-grooves like “Soul Clap” and “Bounce Ta This” some twenty-years ago.

Even a different direction than their seminal Full Scale EP, the sound of Pre-Loaded isn’t quite as abrasive, but still finds a settled-in sound for the longtime duo. Tracks like the racially-driven “That N***a Crazy”, “My Imagination”, or the harmonic “I Just Go Along” find Show taking a very laid back approach to his production, while A.G. effortlessly blends right in with his longtime partner’s beats. Meanwhile, tracks like the darker “God Is 4 Us”, “Suspended Animation”, and “Here and Now” resurrect that classic, edgier sound of their past that began in the Goodfellas era.

While we’ve seen the crew reunite several times – not to mention a few less than stellar solo projects – it seems with Pre-Loaded, they realize just how much they need one another. On “Show & A”, Andre The Giant comes to terms with the fact that his fans only want to see him on Showbiz beats, while “The Bond” examines just how many classic crews have broken up over the years. With “The Bond” being the last song, it almost suggests that Showbiz and A.G. will record together as long as they live.

For a duo that takes extended breaks between projects, remarkably they reunite each time as if they never missed a step. Amazingly, this isn’t even their album, as Pre-Loaded is pretty much a collection of scraps that didn’t make the upcoming LP Mugshot Music. If this is what they chose to give away, we can’t wait to see what the actual album has to offer.

As promised, Showbiz & AG of legendary DITC fame dropped their free album yesterday on May 8th. Vibe.com premiered the free album download and “Pre-Loaded” is the pre-cursor to a brand new Showbiz & AG album, “Mugshot Music,” dropping late Summer or early Fall that will be available for purchase via DITC Records.

“Pre-Loaded” is also available as a deluxe version with 3 extra songs not available on this ‘free’ version. It’s available on iTunes now.

And the songs?  “More Than One Way Out of the Ghetto” is still one of my all-time favorite narratives, capturing Andre the Giant’s switch from the crack game to the rap game. “Hold Ya Head” with its deeply felt sentiments and somber feel is one of the best songs DITC ever
released.  Both mixes of “Silence of the Lambs” hit like a brick (even if the title was rather lame).  And you can add more on there: “Still Diggin’s” blaring energy, the black power politics of “40 Acres and My Props”, and instant dance floor spark of their classic “Party Groove” and “Soul Clap”.

In the end, Runaway Slave had all the right elements, but fell short of fusing into the kind of album that say, Diamond had with Stunts, Blunts and Hip-Hop or even Lord Finesse The Funky Technician. For starters, it’s just not as much fun – AG is clever, but lacks the sense of playful humor that both Finesse and Diamond brought. Musically, Showbiz’s beats are well made, but they begin to feel a little one-note after half the album – it’s the same basic formula: crackling drum break, short one, two bar loops, a lot of hyped energy, but not as much finesse or raw sample flavor.  And sequencing wise, the album buries all the older material at the very end,
setting them up as almost disposable rather than as an important integration into the overall effort.

All these things considered, the album’s strengths far out pace its weaknesses and though I may not always feel the album – that’s no reason why you shouldn’t.  This is early ’90s era hip-hop at its best.
