“Wassup nerds, you know you been waiting for this shit…” First single from Thirsty Greedy’s Survival Of The Skillest. Directed by Box Lo.

Back in 1995, J-Ro of Tha Alkaholiks recorded a solo cut on the group’s second album, Coast II Coast, called “2014″. The song was a look two decades into the future, and the state of hip-hop as it stands today. Just how prophetic was J-Ro? We take a look.

1. “The year is 2004, people talk about war / I had to hit the floor when the bombs began to pour.” – True

J-Ro correctly predicted that the U.S. would be at war in 2004, as the United States engaged in the “War On Terror” or “Operation: Iraqi Freedom”. Mission accomplished.

2. “I’m pickin up things that could be of use to me / To build a makeshift crib where Hollywood used to be” - False

Hollywood is still standing. However, he could be referring to the apocalypse that happened in Seth Rogan’s This Is The End in 2013.

3. “He said, “My daddy taught me about the hip-hop game / I’m eight years old and Rakim is my name” – True

In the song, J-Ro meets a rapping kid named Rakim around 2009 or so. Today we have A$AP Rocky, who’s legal name is Rakim Myers, and was named after the 18th Letter god MC.

4. “They took me to a freestyle session it was on / I knew hip-hop would never be gone.” – Draw

This one is debatable, Nas said “Hip-Hop Is Dead”, but we beg to differ. Is it dead? No. Is it as good as it once was? Hell no.

5. “Yo we cool in 2014, Alkaholiks still rulin” – Draw

While its been awhile since we’ve had any full length projects from Tha Liks, in 2012 we did get a preview of the still-in-limbo Liknuts project, which brought them together with The Beatnuts. So yeah, The Liks are still cool with each other in 2014. Not sure that they are “ruling” much these days, but they never hit an N.W.A. level back in the day, either.

J-Ro from the Los Angeles hip-hop group Tha Alkaholiks teams up with Europe’s top notch producer Koolade to give y’all a fresh cut called ‘Get Addicted’ that will be featured on Koolade’s debut album ‘The Makings’ (spring 2012). This track was recorded in 2009. but only this summer we decided to shoot a video while on the coast of Croatia in Vodice djing our summer residency at Club Hacienda. Additional footage was shot recently in Ljubljana, Slovenia while rocking club Cirkus.
