After coming off the success of his recent solo album, Molly’s Dirty Water, Hieroglyphics and Souls of Mischief member A-Plus, gives the remix treatment to Deltron 3030′s, Zach De La Rocha-featured track, “Melding of the Minds,” premiering today at Mass Appeal. The original track comes from the highly anticipated album Event 2, the follow-up to Deltron’s underground self-titled classic, Deltron 3030, a group and project consisting of Hieroglyphics alumnus Del The Funkee Homosapien and producers Dan The Automator and Kid Koala. The album delves into themes of science fiction, artificial intelligence, and totalitarianism, and was praised by numerous music outlets.

With Del’s double-timed L. Ron Hubbard-inspired lyrics, matched with A-Plus’ dystopian boom bap production and Zach De La Rocha’s intensity, the track continuously reinvents itself and showcases A-Plus’ creativity, creating 4 remixes at once connected by each verse. “For verse one I did hip-hop style, a musical sample with a live drum swing on the drum programming, kinda dramatic, a lot like the original song in it’s vibe. Verse two I did a glitch-hop swingy style with all hand made sounds, a lot of work there. Verse three I did a club/hyphy bass style, straight-up Bay Area origin style. Verse four was a reprise of the first verse, but with me playing synths instead, to show of some of my musical training from my youth, no samples,” A-Plus states.

A-Plus is one of the founding four members of Souls of Mischief along with rappers Opio, Phesto, and Tajai, as well as the hip-hop collective Hieroglyphics, which include Souls of Mischief, Del The Funkee Homosapien, Casual, Pep Love, and Domino. The rapper and producer has always been ahead of the game, with credits going back as far as the early 90′s including Souls of Mischief’s hip-hop classic, “93 ’til Infinity,” and songs on Hieroglyphic’s seminal work, 3rd Eye Vision.

This is the third release in a remix series that A-Plus began doing earlier this summer, first remixing Que’s “OG Bobby Johnson,” then Meek Mill’s “I Don’t Know.” His most recent solo venture was a concept album entitled Molly’s Dirty Water and was released earlier this year. This comes in addition to the Souls of Mischief collaborative album with Adrian Younge, There Is Only Now, which was released earlier this week and is available on iTunes and in various physical and digital packages. The Hieroglyphics crew are currently on the end of a rare East Coast tour, and have several dates in California approaching, including their annual Hiero Day festival on 9/1.
Following up his highly acclaimed, marijuana-inspired Legrowlize It! instrumental album released in 2011, A-Plus (Hieroglyphics / Souls of Mischief / C7) is back with Legrowlize It! Vol. II, premiered by URB Magazine. With more audio Kush for your mind, body and soul presented by Arnette Eyewear, the album is another set of never before heard classic instrumentals from A-Plus’ personal vaults, made on an ASX-Pro in the late ’90′s and early ’00′s. Produced under the influence and inspired by marijuana and its culture, this is the perfect project to crank up and zone out to. The album is available for free download.

Today, A-Plus and AAGEE are proud to release their album, Molly’s Dirty Water. Known for producing the seminal track “93 ’til Infinity,” A-Plus branches out from his traditional hip-hop sound and showcases the evolution of his production by unleashing his electronic side. A-Plus here offers unique insight into the world of “Molly” through reflective narrative about experimentation, social issues, and temptation. In addition to the album, A-Plus gives us something else to be excited about: a music video for “Blue Tear Drops,” the third track off MDW.

Explaining his musical transition, A-Plus stated,”The project started off as hip-hop, but as we pushed our creative boundaries [it] uncontrollably morphed into a Hip Hop/Electronic hybrid. The process was gradual, recording over 30 songs and fine-tuning the sound by testing songs at our favorite after-hour spots. I am very excited for people to hear this new production, as it is a true reflection of my creative freedom as an artist.”

Also, check out the video for “Blue Tear Drops”, released today.

After leaking the initial series of remakes from Enter The 37th Chamber in late 2009, El Michels Affair is back with the final three installments to the remix series. Released last year on Fat Beats, Enter The 37th Chamber is El Michels Affair’s retro-soul recreation of many classic Wu-Tang Clan songs with an infusion of their signature style. In a project presented by URB.com, Fat Beats, and Audible Treats, Enter The 38th Chamber was released featuring a slew of artists remaking their own versions of these Wu-Tang Clan songs using El Michels Affair’s instrumental covers.

The first leak in this series, “C.R.E.A.M.” features A-Plus of Souls of Mischief and Knobody of the Hieroglyphics crew. While recreating a Wu-Tang anthem may be a difficult feat, the two met the lofty challenge. Over top El Michels’ jazz-soul instrumentation, the duo maintains Wu-Tang Clan’s original mantra with, “Cash rules everything around me / C.R.E.A.M. get the money / Dollar dollar bill, ya’ll.” Their new tone is complimented with upbeat guitar and bass and a more prominent embellishment of the track’s original piano melody, all while maintaining the original sounds and elements that made the track a classic. Next on deck is Nuk Farm, N.R.O., and The Dugout’s cover of “Protect Ya Neck,” re-titled “Trifect Ya Neck.” Taking the original dialogue from Wu-Tang’s version, the cover’s distorted bass, aggressive lyrical attacks, and strong instrumentals bring Wu-Tang’s classic sound into the 21st century. Paying homage to the clan, the trifecta performed “Trifect Ya Neck” live at Southpaw in conjunction with the release of Enter The 37th Chamber. The third and final leak is “Shimmy Shimmy Ya,” by the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard of Wu-Tang Clan. Remade by Von Pea of Tanya Morgan and Spec Boogie of the Lessondary crew, the track overflows with horns and adds a child-like voice to rap the chorus. While recreating the classics was never an easy task, the variety of artists that created Enter The 38th Chamber didn’t try to overshadow the legends. Instead, they revamped the tracks to demonstrate their own unique styles, bringing new life to the Shaolin classics. Available now at Itunes.

2009 already seems like a distant memory, and with the new year comes the promise of new music. Looking to fulfill all your musical needs in 2010 is Interdependent Media, who are set to raise the bar with upcoming releases from newcomer and celebrated artists alike, including TRUTHLiVE, Canibus, Donwill, Von Pea, A-Plus, and others.

Interdependent Media (iM) is coming off a highly successful year, as projects by both Tanya Morgan and hip-hop rookie of year Finale found their way into dozens of high profile Best of 2009 lists. Not content to rest on their laurels, iM is ready to keep making moves and, according to Dominic Del Bene, General Manager and A&R at iM, is looking forward to breaking new artists and “staying ahead of the curve as the music business continues to evolve” in 2010.

iM’s first musical move will come courtesy of Donwill, who will be channeling his inner John Cusack as he releases Don Cusack: In High Fidelity on March 23rd, an album inspired by its celebrated celluloid namesake. Following Donwill will be exciting newcomer, and founder of Interdependent Media, TRUTHLiVE, who brings his lyrical acrobatics to his debut album Patience, produced entirely by Jake One, out on April 20th. Early 2010 will also mark the triumphant return of veteran verse slayer, Canibus as iM readies the spring release of The C Of Tranquility. Bay Area native Moe Green continues the melodious movement with a summer release of his debut album, while Von Pea of Tanya Morgan fame looks to keep things fresh with his solo debut dropping in the fall.

2010 will also see releases from Hieroglyphics’ crew member A-Plus, who, in addition to unveiling his sophomore album this year, will also be collaborating with the perennially dope Del The Funky Homosapien on L.E.D.. The spirit of sonic teamwork continues, as iM plans to join forces with fellow Bay Area powerhouse-on-the-rise MYX Music Label to release a project by The Burnerz, an alliance made up of Zumbi of Zion I and producer The ARE, formerly of K-Otix. The year may yet be young, but with this extensive offering of releases, Interdependent Media promises to make 2010 a banner year in hip-hop.

About Interdependent Media:

Founded in 2006 in the Bay Area by Evan Phillips, Interdependent Media has built unique strengths in the development, production, and marketing of recorded music via new methods of marketing and promotion. Armed with a comprehensive understanding of both traditional and emerging methods of marketing, iM has successfully created multi-faceted methods of raising awareness and interest in their projects. Industry veterans Ian “ID” Davis and Dominic Del Bene head operations at iM and are credited with discovering and/or developing artists such as 9th Wonder, Little Brother, Tanya Morgan, Blackalicious, Del the Funky Homosapien, the Hieroglyphics and more. In 2010, iM will be releasing multi-media projects from artists A-Plus, Donwill, Von Pea, Moe Green, Canibus, TRUTHLiVE, and The Burnerz.
