Legendary Bronx-bred hip hop duo Camp Lo is back with “Cold Retarded”, produced by longtime collaborator Ski Beatz. Although he’s worked with the likes of Jay-Z, Mos Def, Curren$y, Mac Miller, Freddie Gibbs, and many more, Ski has always shared a special creative connection with Sonny Cheeba and Geechi Suede. Ski Beatz produced the majority of Camp Lo’s classic debut album Uptown Saturday Night (including the seminal hit “Luchini”), and has a history with the group dating back nearly two decades. Recently, Sonny Cheeba, Geechi Suede, and Ski sat down to discuss their creative process, chemistry, and musical evolution from the 90s to 2014. At the time the episode was filmed, Camp Lo and Pete Rock were preparing to release their newest project, “80 Blocks From Tiffany’s pt. 2.” A few nights before a scheduled performance in NYC, The Revival crew was invited to attend a private rehearsal to shoot the episode. There, Maria “My-My” and Carl “CD” of The MC Media Group, sat down with the Hip Hop duo and revived some memories through conversation.

Episode 03 (part 01), of a two-part episode, focused a lot on the beginning stages of Camp Lo’s career. Discussing their formation, stories of recording with Ski Beatz (& one of the pranks they pulled on him), their classic hit “Luchini,” Geechi’s reaction after hearing the sample from “Coole High” for the first time and more.. it really took us, as Hip Hop fans, back. Even Geechi & Cheeba, themselves, had to burst out in laughter, reminiscing on the past. In doing so, as the purpose of the series, they were able to connect their humble beginnings to the journey that led them to this present time in their careers.

Last week the legendary Camp Lo dropped by the Toca Tuesdays studio with Pete Rock to talk about their new album. Of course Toca cracked the mic so they could join in on the Power Cypher.

Bronx duo Camp Lo decodes the classic “Coolie High” from their debut album Uptown Saturday Night.

On Wednesday November 28th, Camp Lo will perform their time-honored classic Uptown Saturday Night, in its entirety, at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, NY. The show marks the first of several select tour dates to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the Bronx duo’s seminal 1997 album.

Camp Lo will perform Uptown Saturday Night from front to back, in its entirety, at each of the shows, while also unveiling new music the duo has been working on with long-time collaborator, prominent producer Ski Beats.

Best known for their singles, “Luchini (This Is It)” and “Coolie High”, Camp Lo has released 3 studio albums since 1997, but Uptown Saturday Night remains the album most adored by their fans. This winter, with new music clearly on the horizon but not quite finished, and the 15th Anniversary of Uptown on the calendar, Camp Lo will give fans what they’ve been waiting for: Uptown Saturday Night live in concert, in full.
