Bobo Meets Rhettmatic release their official Cypress Junkies Mixtape & Mini EP premiered by FRSH SLCTS. The highly anticipated mixtape + EP contains four new original studio tracks with a features by Dilated Peoples’ Rakaa Iriscience and Fitz and The Tantrum’s, Noelle Scaggs and three live mix sets programmed by genre.

The seminal percussionist and turntablist duo kicked off the release today by making a special television appearance on KTLA Channel 5 that aired as multiple segments.

Bobo Meets Rhettmatic offers new mixes from upcoming project Cypress Junkies – a three-part mixtape series with a mini EP due November 3, 2011.

The group’s new capsule-inspired release contains three new mixes and four original studio tracks with a feature by Dilated Peoples’ Rakaa Iriscience and Fitz and The Tantrum’s, Noelle Scaggs.

BMR kicks everything off with the “BMR Funk Set” (below) and will release the “Mini Break Set” and the “BMR Latin Set” every following Thursday until release day.

Ya’ll know Ras Kass. The self described “water proof emcee” has been putting it down for as long as you remember, dropping memorable lyrics and hip-hop quotables for over 16 years. However, the memory of a cohesive Ras Kass album almost goes back that many years. With legal and label issues, it’s been tough for Ras to settle down and drop a focused full length. With his latest release, A.D.I.D.AS. (All Day I Dream About Spittin’), Razzy Kazzy finally brings the fans what they’ve been asking for.

Production wise, A.D.I.D.AS. may be one of Ras Kass’ best. The beat selection is fantastic, with the majority of the beats, such as the dope “Mind Control” being pure bangers and head nodders, fit to bang in the system. But as we know, on a Ras album, it’s all in the lyrics. A.D.I.D.AS. could not be more of a perfect acronym for what Ras does on this album and shows that he’s still on top of his game. Ras Kass’ lyrical prowess has never been questioned and on this album, he goes for the throat.

Razzy is at his best when dropping lyrical bombs on tracks such as “Visine”, “A.D.I.D.A.S” and on the standout track “Linguistics”, featuring Skillz. Even with top notch emcees joining him on dope collaborations such as “Attitudes 2010″ with Royce Da 5’9″ and “This Shit Right Here” with his four horsemen brethren (Canibus, Kurupt, Killah Priest), Ras steals the show and exerts his dominance. Lyrically Ras does his thing.

Though many tracks go for the jugular with Ras Kass dropping battle lyrics, he also gives the listener insight into his feelings about his career and the current state of hip-hop. Tracks such as “Beautiful Grind”, “Where Did She Go” and “Hip-Hop Now” find Ras Kass getting serious and talking about not only his career, but his disdain for where hip-hop is going.

Based on pure length and size of an album, in the case of A.D.I.D.AS. this vinyl weighs a ton.The LP comes in at a heavy 27 tracks as a double CD. It’s almost as if Ras wanted to give the listeners and fans all of the music they didn’t get in the previous years. This large volume of tracks coupled with the large list of guests makes A.D.I.D.AS. a monotonous and taxing listen at times. The size also takes away from the cohesion as A.D.I.D.AS. also feels more like a compilation than an actual album. “Goldyn Chyld 2″ and “Scenario 2012″ attempt and fail to recapture the magic of the original classics. Seriously 5 to 7 tracks could have been removed from the final release of A.D.I.D.AS and would not have been missed.

Overall with the release of A.D.I.D.A.S. Ras puts emcees on notice that he’s still a lyrical monster. Imperfections such overweight tracklist and bad songs such as “Me and My Twins ’05″ keep A.D.I.D.AS from soaring. However, the LP is still a solid release from a flat out legendary, nasty emcee.

On August 31st, Exile will release his next album Exile Radio “AM/FM” on Plug Research. “AM/FM” is a remix album featuring various rapper/singers over the original versions of his latest album “Radio,” while various producers remix the original tracks. When putting together the “AM/FM” album, there was such a high number of remix submissions, Plug Research is now releasing a FREE BONUS album that will drop in it’s entirety next week.

For the moment, here is one track from the upcoming FREE BONUS album, which will not be on the official “AM/FM” album. Produced by the one and only, DJ Rhettmatic of The World Famous Beat Junkies and Crown Royale, here is Rhett’s remix of “It’s Coming Down.”

L.A.’s DJ Rhettmatic (Beat Junkies) has linked up with Michigan’s Buff1 (Atheltic Mic League) to form the collaborative duo, Crown Royal. The group has signed to Bay Area based MYX Music, and is eyeing a 2010 release for their debut album. The label is also home to One Be Lo, Kam Moye (aka Supastition), Jern Eye, D. Black, and Keeley & Zaire, among others. “I’m honored to be part of the MYX Music Label family,” says Rhettmatic, “To have a company like MYX interested and excited in the music Buff and myself make is a blessing, especially during these times with only a few indie labels around.” Check out the group’s first single below. – DJ Pizzo
