Starring O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell as Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E, Straight Outta Compton is directed by F. Gary Gray (Friday, Set It Off, The Italian Job). The drama is produced by original N.W.A. members Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, who are joined by fellow producers Matt Alvarez and Tomica Woods-Wright. Will Packer serves as executive producer of the film alongside Gray.”

Universal has released the first photo of the cast of F. Gary Gray’s Straight Outta Compton, featuring the film’s Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, and Ice Cube. It was news broke earlier in the week that Dr. Dre would be played by Marcus Callender, however this has turned out to be incorrect, as the role will go to Corey Hawkins (Iron Man 3, Non Stop). Ice Cube’s son, OMG, will still portray him, and Eazy-E will be played by Jason Mitchell, as reported earlier. The film is set for an 8/14/15 release date. Check out the photo of the core cast below.

It was revealed last week that Ice Cube cast his son, OMG, to play him in the upcoming N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton, directed by F. Gary Gray.

Today, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Dr. Dre will be played by Marcus Callender (Dinner At 40), while Eazy-E will be helmed by Jason Mitchell (Contraband, Broken City). Mitchell’s audition moved Eazy’s widow, Tomica Wright, to sign off on the performance, despite him not being one of Eazy’s heirs.

LA radio station KCRW was on the scene at the casting call for the upcoming N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton, directed by F. Gary Gray. Hundreds of actors showed up to audition, as you can see in the photos below. Check out the station’s audio report from the scene, as well.

Ice Cube sits in with Arsenio to talk about his new film, Ride Along, and also speaks on how he believes his son, rapper OMG, is the best man for the job to play him in the upcoming N.W.A. biopic. He also performs a gangsta rap version of “Goodnight Moon” over the “Straight Outta Compton” beat.

Ice Cube called into LA’s Power 106 to speak on his new film, Ride Along, with Kevin Hary. He also gives status updates on the N.W.A. biopic, and the next installment of the Friday series.

In promotion for his new film, Ride Along, Ice Cube spoke on N.W.A.’s nomination and sub for entry into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.

Public Enemy and N.W.A. are among a list of first-time nominees for entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year.

Alongside Rush and Deep Purple, this is the first time for both pioneering hip-hop acts to be recognized for the Hall, who will also join returnees Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Randy Newman, Donna Summer and Kraftwerk, who will all compete for entry.

There are only two other hip-hop acts inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame over it’s thirty-year history, The Beastie Boys, who were inducted in 2011, and Run DMC, inducted in 2009. Notably, Run DMC are also responsible for desecrating the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their 1985 for “King Of Rock”, while Larry “Bud” Melman stood by idly and did nothing. Nothing.

On April 18th, a panel of 600 artists, music historians and members of the industry will choose 2013′s inductees, in Los Angeles.

In an on the street interview, TMZ discovered that the possibility of an N.W.A. movie could happen, starring the original members’ kids playing their fathers. Given each sons’ uncanny resemblances to their fathers, rumors have swirled that Curtis Young aka The Product would play Dr. Dre, OMG as Ice Cube, and Lil E as Eazy-E. When asked about the rumor, he suggested “We’re talking about it … we’ll see what happens.”
