DJ Khaled, T-Pain, Rick Ross, Plies, and Lil Wayne reunite for another single and video. Maybe they should form a group?

Uh… Is this the pot calling the kettle wack? DMX drops knowledge after St. Louis Hot 104.1 plays Plies “Bruh Bruh”, and is asked whom he thinks is the worst rapper out right now.

“‘Bruh Bruh?’ Are you serious? That has to be one of the worst. How do you even say that, or spell that? And, I’m looking at how its spelled,” said X.”We as artists are teachers. And if you teaching people to spell like that and talk like that, then you’re dumber than the people you’re supposed to be teaching. There’s a difference between doing wrong and being wrong. That ain’t right,” X added.

Plies new video suggests that he is so rich, that he should rob himself. He probably also masturbates while looking at himself in the mirror. Oh, and let’s not forget the money salad, which makes it’s debut right here.

As far as artists trying to have it both ways – that is, keeping their street cred intact while selling records at the same time – few currently have it figured out like Plies. The Florida-born rapper made sure everyone knew how real he was by including the word in the titles of his first three albums, yet a couple of top ten pop hits probably deserve more than half the credit for helping him go gold every time out.

To paraphrase Janelle Monae, Plies is still doing the tightrope on his latest, Goon Affiliated. What happens, though, when the radio hits stop coming? That might be a pressing issue, as none of the singles released so far have caught fire and nothing else has the feel of an obvious smash.

That leaves him falling back on his grimier stuff, and while there’s nothing wrong with tracks like “Go Live” and “Get My Niggas Out,” there’s nothing particularly memorable either. And that goes for the beats as well as the lyrics.

But just when you’re about to say “hell no” to the whole thing after the ridiculousness of “Bruh Bruh” and “Goonette,” it dawns on you: Plies is pretty funny and clever when he wants to be. It’s a little twist of humor that elevates “Rob Myself” above most songs where rappers talk about how rich they are, and the chorus of “Awesome” can’t help but make you smile.

“Model” features Plies telling the world that he’s too good looking to a be a rapper (“How ya’ll say it up North? No homo?”). And while guests are few, Young Jeezy and Fabolous stop by to explain why it “Look Like” they all sell dope.

Yet the most interesting track didn’t even make the final cut, appearing as a bonus on the deluxe version. “Letter” is a much more on point indictment of the music business and the mindset of certain rappers than you’d expect from someone, like… well, Plies, and the beat incorporates the sound of a typewriter to good effect. Why he and/or the label decided to leave it out is anyone’s guess.

Maybe it just didn’t fit the formula that Plies has followed to success thus far. It’s just that the blueprint is showing signs of fraying around the edges on Goon Affiliated, so a Plan B is probably not a bad idea at this point. There’s more to Plies than meets the eye, he just has to decide if he wants to show it to us or not.

Lil’ Jon – Crunk Rock – Nobody really has any special editions or free bonus items when you purchase Jon’s Crunk Rock, however the label has offered regular and deluxe editions of the album, both available everywhere. The deluxe edition comes with a hefty price tag, so go with Amazon to get the most “WHUT!” for your buck: $14.99 for deluxe CD, $11.99 deluxe digital. Verdict: Amazon

Plies – Goon Affiliated – If you’re going to grab a physical CD of Plies’ Goon Affiliated, do what Plies would want you to do, and put on a ski-mask and steal it from any local corporate entity. You can do that digitally too, but without the ski-mask. If you want to play by the rules, head to either Amazon or Itunes, both of whom are offering deluxe digital 19 track editions of the album – that’s four extra songs not included on the disc based versions. Itunes is charging three dollars more than Amazon, but justifies this by including two digital videos. But we say fuck the videos – there’s YouTube. Verdict: Amazon

Travie McCoy – Lazarus – The Gym Class Heroes frontman serves up a handful of offers for his solo debut, Lazarus, with pretty much all of them good. Itunes has a deluxe edition of the album for $11.99, which includes two bonus tracks, “Ms. Tattoo Girl” and “She Did It”, as well as the video for “Billionaire”. Target – whom is usually in bed with Itunes on these types of things – has a $12.98 Deluxe Edition CD/DVD of the album, including an exclusive documentary. We’re guessing this includes the bonus tracks as well. Meanwhile, Fueled By Ramen serves up the standalone CD – no bonus tracks – but offers a $24.00 package with T-Shirt in any size. Verdict: Three-Way-Tie

Reef The Lost Cauze vs. Guns-N-Butter – Fight Music You can order Reef’s latest direct from his label, Enemy Soil Records, in a special deluxe T-Shirt package, along with a free poster and sticker for $24.98.
