Masked and unseen, The Black Opera have created an identity in hip-hop using anonymity to standout in a world of hyper-exposure. While most struggle to shine, TBO calmly dress in all black and treat their verses like sermons.

Step into The Black Opera’s “Black Lair.” This high-energy track takes us to a place “blacker than Mutombo,” illuminated only by the musical light of French producer Astronote. A dusty piano begins to pound as a subterranean bass line travels through. Melody Betts lends her haunting but angelic voice to add to the ethereal vibe of the track. Our other-worldly Creators complement the frenetic pace of the song, warning listeners that “perception is king, you never know who’s the diablo.”

TBO exists as neither accomplice or judge, they see the current landscape of music and like a “house of mirrors…reflect the current imagery.” Elevate and hear The Black Opera’s deeper gospel.
Like a pair of film noir anti-heroes, The Black Opera don evening attire to celebrate the release of Libretto: Of King Legend with the release of the visual interpretation of “Balcony”.

“Sometimes people choose to mask themselves with character.”

The text that prefaces Andy Madeleine’s visuals for The Black Opera’s “Balcony,” could be read as a double entendre. The Black Opera is choosing to mask themselves with the TBO mythology as a way to reintroduce the raw back into the game while at the same time, the larger-than-life corny personas The Opera roasts in the songs lyrics are masking themselves in an absurd character – perpetuating as real. After hovering over the game like a phantom menace, The Black Opera finally arrives with it’s electrified boom-bap and layered message. Libretto: Of King Legend is available now.

The Black Opera have quickly proven to be beacons of light in the game, emerging at a time when the landscape is fragmented. Their EnterMission. project presented them as faceless champions for change and forward-motion. Now partnering with Mello Music Group, they are releasing the physical manifestation of EnterMission. on CD this week.

They’ve enlists now label-mate Apollo Brown to put his midas touch on “All Over Disguise”, a cut from EnterMission. originally produced by Astronote. Apollo chops a string sample beautifully to craft a reflective slow burner takes the vibe of the original audio demonstration to a more contemplative place. TBO’s introspection is augmented with powerful lines like, “analogue to digital, man is lost and miserable / seeking more (moor) in general, Othello” – a clever Shakespearian nod to the Moorish General Othello on-top of a track that knocks.

The anonymous creative collective is currently perfecting their next musical installment, Libretto: of King Legend, due out this fall, but the CD version of EnterMission. drops today with the vinyl on the way.
The independent collective, comprised of intellectuals, musicians, creators, artists and agents known as The Black Opera launched its mission last year armed with audio and video demonstrations. To our surprise, this secret society of creatives extended an honorable invitation to US. After listening intensely for the past year, Mello Music Group decided to join The Black Opera – signing them to a multi-album deal and issuing a physical edition of “EnterMission.” August 28th on CD and September 25th on vinyl to add to the archives. The Black Opera issued the following statement about the signing:

“The Black Opera is not solely a musical outfit, music is only one aspect that represents THE BLACK OP: ERA. But, when it was time for The Black Opera to get their Musical Movement to ears of the future, they mapped out a plan. They knew that the Third and Final Endstallment of The Black Op Era: I; “Libretto: Of King Legend”, would be the Beginning of something special. Special enough to enlist a company worthy of joining forces with, that company is Mello Music Group.

Both sides decided to join forces in order to advance to their own vision and to assist the vision of their partner. This partnership stems from mutual admiration and appreciation of what each had done on their own. This marks the Beginning of a New Era for both Movements, as ONE.

WE: Will. NOT: Stop.

BE GREAT.”

In addition, TBO prepared a visual presentation of “The Magician” asking “Is Perception KING or QUEEN? Or, a blurred line in between? That line can sometimes best be defined as “MAGIC”. The art of magic is displayed by slight of hand, and by natural forces being influenced by mysterious powers. In this video demonstration for “The Magician” the mystery remains, but the veil is slightly lowered.

The Opera is still Black, but this track brings new hints of sound in color. “The Magician” is a modern day vintage style mini-movie with a realistic portrayal of what happens when “too much, too soon” and “too little, too late” collide on the same track in a relationship. Join The Black Opera for this black tie affair and SPREAD THE WARNING.”
