Usually I don’t like covers, but this is a rare case. “Da Bridge 2001″ is more a remix than a cover, saluting the original, yet coming some 13 years after it was released. Marley Marl pretty much leaves the original beat in tact, and MC Shan starts things off with altered lyrics, getting the last word in at KRS:  “Hip-Hop set out in the dark / The Bridge was never over, we made our mark.” What really makes this song great is that we have several of QB’s current Finest, ripping over a classic beat. From Cormega to Nature to Mobb Deep to Nas, almost everyone is here, but it was a little disappointing to find Kool G Rap absent (and Millennium Thug present). Still Nas sews shit up excellently at the end - and this beat is still as dope as it was when they did out in the park.
