Limited Edition GURU (MC Keithy E) Demo Tape

THE X LABEL brings to you a limited edition recreation of Guru’s (MC Keithy E) Demo Cassette Tape. This recreation of Guru’s demo cassette tape consist of the exact image Keithy E made for the cover, Keithy E’s handwriting of the songs on the tape, and the actual songs from the demo. Pop it in your vintage boombox to listen to Guru’s never before-heard songs or put it on a mantle and keep it as an amazing collectors item that was a part of the foundation of Guru’s hip hop legacy.
Tape info: In 1986 MC Keithy E (now known as GURU) completed a demo tape that featured the early members of GangStarr; DJ Mikey Dee and Damo D (Beat Box). The tape that was recorded at “Radio One” studios in Boston, includes multiple racks featuring the young Guru rhyming and displaying his singing voice over a bare drum machine. The demo tape was clearly made and sent directly to Magnus Johnstone (a local DJ/Radio Host in Guru’s hometown of Boston) for his show. Both the demo tape’s cover and the actual tape are labeled “for Magnus”. Magnus Johnstone founded Lecco’s Lemma radio show in 1985. It was a groundbreaking hip-hop radio show, the first of its kind in Boston and one of the only rap radio shows in the world at that time. What made it even more revolutionary for the emerging Boston hip-hop scene was that Magnus encouraged local rap groups to come down to the station and perform on the air. Since the show was Boston’s outlet for up and coming hip hop artists, it was a big deal to appear on the show. This demo tape earned MC Keithy E and crew the right to be on the show and share their talents to the listeners.

Nicki Minaj Barbie Doll To Be Auctioned For Charity

This one of a kind Nicki Minaj Barbie Doll was officially sanctioned by Mattel, and will not be commercially available (most likely because Nicki has some lyrics that don’t exactly line-up with Toys R Us shoppers). The item will be shown at Divine Design’s five-day event and gala at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, with bids starting at $1000.
“It’s just a one of a kind, limited edition for charity, and so I never thought Mattel would even pay attention to me….For me this is a very major moment, because it just shows that you can come from nothing and still be a force in the main world, a business woman, and hopefully a mogul one day. It shows that my Barbz are special, and everyone loves them as much as I love them, so I want to thank them most importantly,” Nicki told Billboard.

Deluxe Reissue of O.D.B. “Return To the 36 Chambers” Coming

Available for pre-order now over at UGHH:
It’s safe to say that hip-hop has never seen an album like Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s 1995 solo debut Return to the 36 Chambers. The brief glimpses of ODB’s unhinged genius provided by Wu-Tang Clan’s landmark Enter the Wu-Tang album two years earlier were begging to be expanded on to a larger canvas, and, with RZA guiding production, the album promised to give Dirty the creative license to make one of the most bizarre, entertaining and original LPs in hip-hop history. With his raspy, drunken flow and dark sense of humor, Dirty fearlessly attacks from all angles, throwing himself fearlessly into punchy rhyme attacks (“Damage,” with GZA), drugged-out party jams (the monster singles “Brooklyn Zoo” and “Shimmy Shimmy Ya”) and bizarre, grimly hilarious fantasies of sex and violence (“Don’t U Know” and the R&B-tinged “Sweet Sugar Pie”). Backed by RZA’s appropriately gritty, dissonant beats and appearances from the Clan, Return became an instant hit, selling over 1 million copies and earning a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Album in 1996. The album stands as a high water mark in the Wu-Tang Clan’s collective creative output and was selected as one of the Best 100 Rap Albums by The Source magazine in 1998. In honoring the legacy of one of hip-hop’s most innovative releases, Get On Down is proud to present this incredible and unique special edition of Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version on double CD which contains the complete original album, remastered for optimal sound quality, plus a 13-track second disc featuring remixes, a capellas, instrumentals and rarities from the Return to the 36 Chambers sessions. The two-disc set comes packaged in a deluxe bill fold wallet, designed especially for this release, which includes a reproduction of the laminated food stamp card featured on the album’s iconic cover art. Also included are a vintage “On Tour” poster, promotion sticker, extended artwork and detailed liner notes.

50 Cent “Power Of The Dollar” Advance CD

What you are looking at above is the physical manifestation of record company incompetence. Quite possibly the biggest blunder in rap history, Columbia had signed 50 Cent via Trackmasters imprint around 2000 or so. His album, Power Of The Dollar, was finished, as seen here above, sent to press, and bootlegged mercilessly. But instead of riding the buzz young 50 created with “How To Rob”, they shelved the album. Unsure of what to do with 50, they released him from his contract, allowing him to sign one of the biggest deals in the history of rap music, with his Shady Records / Aftermath debut selling over 6 Million copies. The rest is history…. and they didn’t even have the decency to spell his name right on the promo disc…..
