After how many times Mastermind was delayed, we didn’t see this one coming. Def Jam press release tells it like it is….
Grammy®-nominated hip-hop magnate Rick Ross has announced his second full-length album release in less than one year, HOOD BILLIONAIRE, arriving in stores November 24th on Maybach Music/Def Jam Recordings. The new album’s first advance track, “Elvis Presley Blvd” – featuring Memphis native Project Pat and produced by Atlanta’s legendary DJ Toomp – has ignited the streets with a video making the rounds online.
HOOD BILLIONAIRE is the follow-up to Ricky Rozay’s Mastermind, which was released March 2014 and became his fifth career album to debut at #1 Soundscan. The first official single from HOOD BILLIONAIRE will be “Keep Doing That (Rich Chick)” feat. R Kelly, coming soon.
Mastermind’s stunning #1 chart debut six months ago was underscored by back-to-back New York City appearances on NBC’s [then new] The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and Late Night with Seth Meyers; as well as a performance on The Arsenio Hall Show in Los Angeles. Ross made Tonight Show history in New York (where he performed “The Devil Is A Lie”) – the first rap artist to perform on the show from its new studios at 30 Rock.
The Tonight Show and Late Night were just part of the Mastermind roll-out, which included listening events in New York City, Miami, Atlanta, and Los Angeles; takeovers of RapFix Live (seen on MTV Jams and MTV.com) and BET’s 106 & Park; and a live concert broadcast on Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Revolt TV network. There was also the video premiere of another Mastermind track, “War Ready” (featuring Jeezy), which followed-up the advance track “Nobody” featuring French Montana, a tribute to the late Notorious B.I.G.
The Mastermind rollout climaxed with a sold-out concert at the Best Buy Theater in New York hosted by Hot 97 radio. Reviewing the show, the New York Times hailed Ross as “one of hip-hop’s kingpins… one of hip-hop’s most important and theatrical figures”; and praised Mastermind for its “striking, subtle musical moments throughout.”
Mastermind succeeded Ross’ 2012 release, God Forgives, I Don’t, his fourth album to debut at #1 Soundscan, which included top hits “Touch’N You” featuring Usher, “So Sophisticated” featuring Meek Mill, and fan favorite “Diced Pineapples” featuring Drake and Wale. Ross’ previous best-selling albums include Port Of Miami (2006), Trilla (2008), and Deeper Than Rap (2009), all of which debuted at #1 Soundscan; and Teflon Don (2010).
