I played “Dr. EZ’s Cool Fantastic Part II” for my homie a while back and his response to the buzzing bass bumps and floating spaced-out keys was, “this don’t go together”. I beg to differ my friend, it fits like the number 3 special at Popeye’s Chicken & Biscuits. And that is what basically sums up this 9 track plate, not so typical sample arrangements and old style breaks with a sonically refreshing breath injected through them. Consisting of emcees Able & Vesuvio, beatmaker Zinn and the dreaded turntable-man DJ Drez.
Sparked with the melodramatics, “When We Were Kings” sets the pace of the duration of the soundscape. A retrospective look back to the almost hard to imagine days of when powerful African kingdoms reigned supreme over their land. While Eminem does make a cameo appearance on the title track (“Green & Gold”) don’t get your hopes too high, unless you get unusually amped over the slim shady fare. “Dedicated” makes for a nice cool out instrumental cut, flavored through out with slices and dices courtesy of DJ Mark Luv  & Drez. Only problem, if you are a break-record connoisseur you may recognize a lot of the bits-n-pieces chopped from your own practice sessions.

Record consumers may also be aware of the “Dr. EZ’s Cool Fantastic Part I” (which was released as a single last summer) massive-posse cut set, which is also included on the disc. It’s dope to see almost 20 West Coast underground troopers on two tracks together, personally I prefer the second of the pair (even though Medusa, Jyrant & Erule show and prove well on the first). Bass bumps and sonic keys spread over a sizzling track for 9 emcees (from Divine Styler, Dilated Peoples to the Living Legends) to collectively get down for the left side. To close out, “Life” a down-tempo dark-n-dusty epilogue, and if you own the CD let it play for about 5 minutes and you’ll be pleased to catch another nice little hidden instrumental track. There’s not much rah-rah on this mini-album, ample cool out music. Relaxing enough to put a head to bed, but don’t sleep. Fa real.
