What is it with Cypress Hill and remixes? They always come through for the DJ’s – remember the “Boom Biddy Bye Bye Remix” with The Fugees, or “Throw Ya Hands In The Air” w/ Erick Sermon, Redman, and MC Ehit? In the tradition of releasing these post album, vinyl only remixes, they do it again with “High Life” and “Rap Superstar”. The “Highlife (Fredwreck Remix)” (by Fredwreck) is as sticky and as funky as they come, destined to be a major record on the L.A. market. This new “west coast” remix features additional rhymes from King Tee, Kurupt, and Baby S, and while nobody here really turns this into a super-lyrical free-for-all, the consitant change ups and good west coast production keep it moving along just fine. Al’s “Rap Superstar (Alchemist Remix)”, packs his trademark deep-bass stabs and scary pianos, while B-Real pretty much covers the same material. Not Al’s best track, but it’s cool.
