I’m definitely a fan of Saul Williams after hearing the stuff he’s done for various compilation albums, as well as his performance in “Slam”. It’s his sarcastic, commandeering tone and attitude, which really makes you want to hang on to every word he spits – no matter how off-beat. “Penny For A Thought”, immediately grabs your attention with “This fool actually thinks he can drive his Hummer on the moon / Blasting DMX off the soundtrack of a South Park cartoon”, just as the beat kicks in. It gets a little messy towards the end, but still stays interesting. B-sides “Purple Pigeons”, is shared with Wood Harris, with frequent change-ups in production, but doesn’t hold your attention quite as well as side A. I’m still interested in hearing more from Saul, tho. – Pizzo
