Table Turns, the independent hip-hop collective who began as an open turntable event three years ago, has built itself a label specifically for the DJ, but has since made strides to embrace the emcee as well. After the release of Rob Swift’s Sound Event, Tableturns is back at it again with the release of State of the World.

Though State of the World combines scratch records with emcee appearances, from a DJ perspective, you cannot help but appreciate joints like “Get Prepared” where Supa Dav West  cuts witty verbals into a solid track. Meanwhile, Rob Swift and DJ Quest slice and dice with the exquisite precision on “The Pledge”.

While the DJ’s uphold what the label began as and showcases, Cannibal Ox come through to serve up a little lyrical firepower on “Cosmos”. The duo continue to heighten the anticipation for their follow up while Vast Aire proceeds to prove why his solo project will run circles around the competition, while Slug’s verbal wizardry on the ill “Keep Steppin’” will keep the headphones firmly attached to your dome.  However, it’s J-Live who really shows and proves with his class of metaphysics on the incredible “Don’t Get It Backwards”.

State of the World provides every hardcore hip hop head a diverse blend of DJing and MCing, which results in a solid and cleverly crafted piece of work.
