Not big on posting unknown artists here. This isn’t really a forum to pollute with your cousin’s demo (no offense to people with cousins / demos), however been kinda feeling this Jamie Drastik mixtape. Not sure if he’s trying to be the next Asher Roth or anything, the Poughkeepsie, NY emcee has a pretty fun little “street” album here. Jamie is co-signed by Pitbull and the mixtape is presented by Mr. 305 Inc. (so you know what that means).
Yeah, he does go for the kind of dated “mash-up” thing in a few places, however the real meat of this collection are some of his more personal tracks – “The Gimmick” for instance, while it relies on a pretty familiar sample (not saying what), and goes in and kills the shit.
He’s kind of going for a half-nasty emcee, half-club rapper and he seems to succeed for the most part on both accounts. While the Big Ali + David Rush featured “Curse” suffers from autotune overload, but “Need More Bottles” built around the Ron Browz sample will knock in the club for sure. The same can be said for the Lil’ Jon propelled “How Many Girls”. Gonna need some tagless versions for XS this weekend guys.
No, this ain’t quite Jay Electronica “Exhibit D”. It’s some fun party shit, give the kid a chance, he just might surprise you.
