The New York Post reports that two twenty-something gentlemen, Robsson Depeine, 23, Jeff Sylvain, 24, along with five other friends, racked up a champagne bill of over $28,500 at the M2 Ultra Lounge on Monday night, in celebration of Julez Santana’s birthday. The duo attempted to show Santana just how lavish their lifestyles are by sending over bottles to his table…. but tried to pay the bill with fraudulent credit cards.

Initially their cards checked out, which allowed them to purchase the 40 bottles of Moet Nectar Rose ($16,000) and 1 nine-liter bottle of Veuve Clicquot champagne ($3500), but the staff of the club became suspicious after they attempted to order an additional nine-liter bottle, as well as a twelve liter bottle of Clicquot ($5500). It was soon revealed that they were using fake New York ID’s with stolen credit cards, leading the duo to be arrested on charges of grand larceny and criminal possession of a forged instrument. They are being held on $20,000 bail.

The two tried to escape the club and leave their friends, but were stopped by security. Thankfully, they have a great lawyer behind them who insists the whole thing was a wacky mix-up by fault of the club, not two twenty year olds that like to pretend that they have money.

“My clients were invited to a birthday party. There were several people putting down credit cards and ordering pricey bottles of champagne. There was chaos at the end of the night and the bartender realized that there had been fraudulent transactions. The club couldn’t find the real person who gave them the credit card, so my clients were wrongfully identified. It’s a joke.”

That explains it.
