The New Jersey Nets basketball team will relocate to Brooklyn in 2012, and thus forward be known as “The Brooklyn Nets”.
“We named the New Jersey Nets the Brooklyn Nets,” Jay-Z, part owner of the team, said in a brief press conference yesterday. .
“We think we’ve developed a lot of equity behind brand Nets,” said Brett Yormark, the Nets’ top marketing executive. “Brooklyn was easy,” Yormark said. “Brooklyn is iconic. It transcends the marketplace. In many respects, it’s a global name and reference.”
The team will unveil new uniforms and logos in February.
