The Masta Ace comeback tour continues with one of his better 12″s. While the “Ghetto Like…” concept has already been flipped by everyone from Kardinal Offishall (“U R Ghetto When”) and Jay-Z (“So Ghetto”), Ace does a decent job with some clever lines: “I’m ghetto like them chicks that hate Kobe’s white finance/who want to try to fight her, Brandy and Beyonce.” Plus Saukrates’ track of sloopy basslines keeps it simple and effective. Domingo does a similar job with “The Outcome” – little more than just a light sitar-sounding melody and drums. Ace isn’t as memorable here – his rhyme scheme is a little mo’ complex, but if you’ve been listening to him as long as some of us have, you know that he hasn’t really changed up his verbal steez in years. Still, I’m glad to see this original Cold Chillin’ cat still up in the place. Just no more “Born to Roll” please.
