The acronym Murs has stood for many an interesting quote, but if I was to create my own meaning for the four letters it would be: MURS Utilizes Rap Staples. As flamboyantly raw in person as behind a microphone, MURS can simultaneously call you a “bitch”, step on your toes, turn a track inside out and be ghost with a drink in his hand and pussy on the mind before you can say “hey! you wanna freestyle with me?”. As he once said, “muthafuckas use real shit”. And to quote (agreeably) his sophomoric cassette, “F’real”. So haters prepare, the door is that way and we’ll try not to peep the tail in between those legs as we delve into the double (enhanced) disc overdose that is Good Music.

What a better way to spark off an album than with some good ol’ fashioned yelling (at the listener)? “Whatuptho?” sits the listener down, while “Simple” kicks they bitch-ass over. Oakland’s Elusive takes an energetic step behind the boards as MURS “moves on your fears” with much ferocity. With a buffet of almost 30 tracks to choose from the listener will either be overjoyed or overloaded. MURS diversifies his content and stylings greatly throughout, but with a bevy of songs so great it’s easy to forget you haven’t even heard half the shit yet. Disc 1 is more so the actual album, while it’s counterpart showcases some previously released goodies and dub-classic gems. Seekers will be pleased to find the much sought after “Jerry Maguire Song” as well as the debatably disappointing “A Day Like No Other (Remix)” featuring indie-allstars El-P, Yesh, Shing02 and MURS himself kicking freestyle like rhymes over the Siah & Yeshua Da Poed original.

Disc 2 does provide some enjoyment but nothing in comparison to its predecessor Disc 1. “24 Hrs With A G” pairs some of Mid-City LA’s more refined homies together in what could be one of 99′s more humorously dope tracks. People Under The Stairs’ wizard of beats Thes One lays a funky ass bassline on top some crunchdified drums as he conducts Sesame Street’s very own Grover to sing the hook. A song no one should front on. Actually PUTS frontrunner assists MURS with 3 more of the albums jammies, most noteworthy being “Room 3:16″. Another joint that’ll put a smile on your grill to accompany the head-nodding. MURS rides some drums that’ll put a Showbiz or Pete Rock to shame. Of course the Legends lend their flavoring to the project with Grouch, Eligh, and Bizarro all lending prop-warranting production credits. “Angels” (a bubbling Grouch creation) is a heartfelt departure from the usual bitch-slap barrage to a more humble offering towards MURS’ mother. D.J. Bizzaro lays something real mellow for “My Story”, where the man takes another conscious approach towards to mic. But don’t think you’ll get outta this with no name calling, “Zonin” (featuring Eclipse 427), “That’s Him” and “Que Hora Es?” all smack that head up, real offensive-like.

MURS, making the world recognize and submit. He isn’t afraid to call his own creation Good Music and you shouldn’t either. Honest, raw with no pretension.
