Late last month, when Dizzy Wright was in New York City, the Funk Volume rapper caught up with fellow up-and-comer Joey Bada$$. The two got together in the studio, and out of those sessions came “Maintain,” a track that will be featured on Dizzy’s upcoming, yet-to-be-titled mixtape.

While most collaborations nowadays rarely happen in-person, it was special for the two rising emcees to come together in the studio, and that chemistry comes across on the “Maintain.” “I’d made a track that I felt like it was perfect for Joey,” recalls Dizzy on how the song, produced by Funk Volume’s DJ Hoppa, first came about. “It was cool working in the studio together. We’re both young, both energetic – we just got a good vibe and got creative.” The finished product is an uplifting track, with both rappers delivering on the ’90s vibe that permeates much of their music. “We were trying to convey that feel-good sound,” says Dizzy. “It just all fell together.”
